Strategy for international civilian crisis management and peace promotion 2024–2028
Sweden’s strategy for civilian crisis management and peace promotion is a part of the governance of Sweden’s collective development, foreign and security policy. The strategy will contribute to strengthening the multilateral organisations’ capability to prevent, predict, manage and resolve crises and conflicts and help promote sustainable peace, security, democracy and increased respect for human rights and freedoms and the rule of law.

Government adopts new regional strategy for Syria crisis
The Government has adopted a new regional strategy for the Syria crisis. It comprises SEK 880 million over three years and is being implemented by Sida. Sweden’s engagement is aimed at supporting the Syrian population in Syria, Syrian refugees and vulnerable groups in host societies in the neighbouring countries Jordan, Lebanon and Türkiye.

Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation visited Sweden
On 23–24 May, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation Lolwah bint Rashid Al-Khater visited Stockholm at the invitation of State Secretary Diana Janse. The visit also included meetings with Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström and Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell. The purpose of the visit was to discuss cooperation on development assistance, Ukraine’s reconstruction and the war in Gaza.

New energy package to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience
Today, the Government is presenting a new energy package to Ukraine in the amount of SEK 650 million. This support will help secure Ukraine’s energy supply to ensure that fundamental public services, such as schools, hospitals, transport, water supply and businesses, can continue to run.

Government presents support package for children in Ukraine and Moldova
The Government and the Sweden Democrats have decided on SEK 105 million in support to strengthen children’s rights and protection in Ukraine and Moldova. In addition, Sweden has decided to donate SEK 30 million through Sida to Save the Children’s operations in Ukraine. This support will help strengthen children’s welfare and access to safe healthcare in an extremely serious humanitarian situation.

Government increases humanitarian support to Gaza
In view of the extensive humanitarian needs in Gaza, the Government has presented a new humanitarian aid package amounting to EUR 10.5 million. The support will be distributed to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

Focus on SRHR and trade relations as Johan Forssell visits Zambia

Donors address humanitarian crisis facing the Yemeni people
The humanitarian situation is deteriorating in Yemen amidst escalating regional dynamics. Senior representatives from across the humanitarian community gathered in Brussels today at the sixth Yemen Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting (SOM VI), co-hosted by Sweden and the European Commission, to address the most immediate emergencies and to ensure a timely lifesaving response.

Strategy for Sweden’s regional development cooperation with the Middle East and North Africa 2024–2027
This strategy aims to support actors working for more stable, democratic and sustainable development in the Middle East and North Africa, including in Yemen and Palestine. The strategy applies from 21 March 2024 to 31 December 2027 and provides a total of approximately SEK 2.3 billion.

EUR 371 million in humanitarian assistance through Sida to 30 humanitarian crises
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has decided to provide EUR 371 million in humanitarian assistance to 30 humanitarian crises. The largest part of the support will go to humanitarian actors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan and Sudan. Sweden’s humanitarian assistance in 2024 totals EUR 758 million.

Humanitarian assistance allocated to 30 humanitarian crises
Sweden is now distributing EUR 371 million to 30 humanitarian crises through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). Humanitarian needs around the world continue to increase due to more conflicts, further violations of international law and the fact that climate-related and natural disasters are more common and extensive. More and more people are facing famine, fleeing their homes and living under threat of violence and oppression.

State Secretary Diana Janse visited South Sudan with UNHCR
On 11–13 April, State Secretary Diana Janse travelled to South Sudan with Deputy High Commissioner in the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Kelly Clements. Sweden is one of the largest donors to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the humanitarian disaster in South Sudan, which has been exacerbated by the fighting in Sudan.

Government proposes SEK 300 million to Swedfund to invest in Ukraine
Increased investment and a sustainable business sector are crucial to support the reconstruction of Ukraine. In the 2024 Spring Amending Budget, the Government therefore proposes a capital injection of SEK 300 million to Swedfund to increase investment in Ukraine.

Sweden signs USD 250 million guarantee to save Amazon region
Through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Sweden is now issuing a record guarantee of USD 250 million to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Seven countries in the Amazon region will be able to borrow up to USD 460 million for sustainable investments. The agreement was signed in connection with the IDB’s Annual Meeting on 8 March in the Dominican Republic.

Sweden allocates SEK 120 million for Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine through World Food Programme (WFP)
The Government is allocating SEK 120 million for efforts to fight hunger in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine. This support will be channelled through the World Food Programme (WFP), the largest humanitarian organisation dedicated to fighting hunger.
