Obituary of Dorothy Mills
Dorothy “Dot” Crisp Mills, 90, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus, early Friday morning, September 21, 2012 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born February 6, 1922 in Davisport, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John and Mae (Turvey) Crisp. She moved to Mansfield in 1952 and was a homemaker her entire life. Dorothy was a woman of God, a true prayer warrior and was the “rock” of her family demonstrating her values and belief in Christ through her membership at Faith Chapel on Hanna Road where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She loved to listen to “Primitive Quartet” gospel music and, along with her husband, was a singer at church. Dorothy cooked the most wonderful comfort food around and made holidays all the more special with her delicious dishes. Thanksgiving and Christmas were special to Dorothy and she enjoyed hosting the holidays and having her family together. In her spare time, she enjoyed word find puzzles and sitting on the porch with the love of her life, husband Thomas, watching the “races”. Dorothy could be found coloring and goofing around with her grandchildren, playing the “booger man” and relaxing in their company. Her front porch was decorated with the most beautiful hanging baskets every summer. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Thomas Edward Mills; six daughters, Delores Faye (John) Moore, Anna (Jim) Cottrill, Sylvia Jeannie (Don) Littleton, Diane (Myron) Thacker, Jearldean “Dottie” (Tom) Hunter, all of Mansfield, and Glenda Sue (Jack) Davis of Lenoir, NC; and three sons, Bob Mills and Charlie Ray (Sharon) Mills, both of Aiken, SC and Lee Mills of Mansfield. She is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren, Randy, Ron and Steve Moore, Pam Keesee, Teresa Dickison, Phillip Rose, Jr., Cindy Branham, Ricky Rose, Lynn Baughman, Tammy Hunter, Shelley McPeek, Donnie and Rick Littleton, Tonya Fox, Crystal Grindstaff, Jenny, Jeff and Robert Mills, Amanda Thacker, David Imboden, Jr., Donna Bargstedt, Kimberly McCulloch, and Josiah and Autumn Mills; forty-seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a brother, Ray (Georgene) Crisp of Mansfield; a very good family friend and “adopted” daughter, Donna Lowe of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Edward Mills; three sisters, Ethel Gearhart, Mary DeLong and Trinnie Maggard; and five brothers, Marion, Jim, Hollie, Bill and Claude Crisp. Friends and family may visit from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. Additional visitation will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Faith Chapel, 674 Hanna Road, Mansfield followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Rev. Paul Crisp and Pastor Kyle Dearing will conduct the service. Contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to Faith Chapel or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607.
