Pedro Avilés, commonly known as the The Lion of Sinaloa was a Mexican drug lord. One of the earliest drug lords to smuggle marijuana into the United States, he led a formidable marijuana smuggling organization in Sinaloa by the late 1970s.
Avilés was shot in the head in 1980 by Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo after he and his men were shot by corrupt police officers. In real life he was shot to death by Mexican federales in 1978.
