Cornelius Crean Succumbs; Was Retired Firefighter Chicopee - Cornelius J. Crean of 31 Sherman Ave. a retired member of the Chicopee Fire Department died in his home Tuesday morning after a long illness. Born in Chicopee Dec 10, 1901, son of the late Cornelius P. and Mary F. (Hayes) Crean, he attended Holy Name Grammar School and was graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield. Appointed to the Chicopee Fire Department Dec 12, 1927, by the late Mayor Michael I. Shea, he retired April 23, 1962. At various times during his years of service, he acted as captain at Fire Headquarters. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Name Church, Chicopee Permanent Firemans Association, Massachustetts Permanent Fireman's Association, Archbishop Williams Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Chicopee Council 69, Knights of Columbus, and the Shannon Club. He leaves several cousins in Holyoke and West Hartford and Manchester, Conn. The Funeral will be held at the Donald J. Corridan funeral home Friday morning at 9, with a solemn requiem high mass in Holy Name Church at 10. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 10 and Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.
