'Penny Dreadful: City of Angels' Cast: Who Stars in the Showtime Spin-Off?

City of Angels is the new spin-off of Penny Dreadful, which began its run on Showtime on Sunday, April 26. The new show does not feature many connections with the Eva Green original, except for seeing an original cast member return. The rest are all new, with this cast being headed by Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer.

Who they are: Magda is the dark goddess who can take the appearance of anyone she chooses and manifests in several guises throughout the story. Charismatic, clever and chameleonic, Magda is a dangerous enemy and an invaluable ally.

Who plays them: After first breaking out as Anne Boleyn in The Tudors, Natalie Dormer appeared in The Hunger Games movies, Elementary and the TV adaptation of Picnic at Hanging Rock. She is most famous for playing Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones.

Speaking of her character, whom we have already seen in multiple incarnations on the show, Dormer said to Entertainment Weekly, "Magda is a metaphor for the darker side of men's souls. Magda is not the devil incarnate. She's taken a position on mankind: They will always choose the more selfish or baser option."

Tiago Vega - Daniel Zovatto

Who they are: Tiago Vega is the LAPD's first Mexican-American detective. His position in the LAPD sometimes puts him at odds with his family and community. A lifelong outsider, Tiago is everlastingly caught between two worlds.

Who plays them: Daniel Zovatto has had multiple-episode arcs in series like Revenge and Fear the Walking Dead and has starred in movies like Lady Bird, Don't Breathe and It Follows.

He said to Meaww of his City of Angels role: "In the first five minutes of the story you get to see how close he gets from that supernatural element. He literally gets touched by Santa Muerte, and is scarred with a handprint, and he still has it and will have it for the rest of his life."

Sister Molly - Kerry Bishe

Who they are: Sister Molly is a charismatic radio evangelist. A beautiful singer and gifted orator, Molly captivates her many faithful followers even as she grapples with the complex demands of her life.

Who plays them: Kerry Bishe starred in 40 episodes of Halt and Catch Fire and also starred in Netflix's Narcos and the final season of Scrubs as well as movies like Argo.

Maria Vega - Adriana Barraza

Who they are: Maria Vega is the powerful matriarch of the Vega family. Maria will go to any length to protect her children from the dangerous world of 1938 social politics, as well as the supernatural forces threatening them.

Who plays them: Mexican actor Adriana Barraza was Oscar-nominated for her role in the movie Babel. After working as an acting coach on various soap operas, she starred in movies like Drag Me To Hell, Thor and the recent Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

Josefina Vega - Jessica Garza

Who they are: Josefina Vega is the youngest of the Vega family. She plays the part of the quiet and obedient sister, but possesses a powerful will waiting to be released.

Who they are: Councilman Charlton Townsend is the ambitious head of the City Council's Transportation Committee. The scion of a powerful Los Angeles dynasty, Townsend has killer instincts and political wiles.

Who plays them: Michael's Gladis' most prominent role so far is ad man Paul Kinsey in Mad Men, but he has also starred in shows like Reckless, Extant as well as films like Terminator Genisys.

Mateo Vega - Johnathan Nieves

Who they are: Mateo Vega is Tiago's volatile younger brother. Mateo lacks the clear purpose of his brothers Tiago and Raul, so he's vulnerable to both his emotions and dangerous influences around him.

Who plays them: Newcomer Johnathan Nieves has been recently seen in episodes of Grey's Anatomy, Shameless and Chicago Fire.

Dr. Peter Craft - Rory Kinnear

Who they are: Peter Craft is a kind family man and a successful pediatrician. He is also the head of the German-American Bund, and organization he hopes will keep the United States isolated from the growing threat of war in Europe.

Who plays them: The only Penny Dreadful cast member to return for City of Angels, Rory Kinnear played John Clare in the original show. Some of his other roles have included Bill Tanner in the Daniel Craig James Bond movies, and recent TV series like Catherine the Great and Years and Years.

Lewis Michener - Nathan Lane

Who they are: Lewis Michener is a veteran officer in the LAPD. Wise to the ways of the world and ruthless in the pursuit of his goals, Lewis becomes Tiago's partner, friend and mentor. Lewis is ferocious in his quest to document the growing menace of Third Reich espionage in Los Angeles.

Who plays them: Three-time Tony winner and multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Nathan Lane has had an extensive TV and film career, starring in the remake of The Producers, The Birdcage and voicing Timon in the original Lion King.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
