Enthusiastic students have teamed up and will present "High School Musical"

The energy and enjoyment that is demonstrated on stage during rehearsals will be on full display when the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Theater Arts presents its 2024 Spring Musical.

And that high school musical is titled Disney's “High School Musical.”

The students and staff who make up this gifted and enthusiastic Theater Arts at the high school will bring this popular musical to the stage at the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium on Thursday, May 2, Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.

The curtain will rise for each show at 7 p.m.

What the audience will enjoy will be a cast and a staff who is committed and passionate.

Heather Diaforli-Day, who serves as the show’s Director and Musical Director, has already applauded her students even before the performances have begun.

“I am thrilled to have so many students who have committed an incredible amount of time and energy to put this show together,” Ms. Diaforli-Day claimed. “These Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts students are talented, driven, and full of wonderful creativity.  I simply can't wait for the audience to hear their voices and watch them tell this story.  Everyone brings their unique energy to the stage!”

What these enthusiastic students will present is a highly acclaimed musical that should capture the interest of the Bridgewater-Raritan community.

According to the Disney website, Troy Bolton is best known as the player who keeps the East Side High School basketball team on the scoreboard. Of course, life isn't always about athletics, though, and as Troy slam-dunks on the boards, beautiful and brainy Gabriella Montez is raising the high school's reputation as the key member of its highly successful academic team. Despite their outgoing natures, no one would ever peg Troy and Gabriella as theater types. When word gets out that this popular pair has decided to audition for the school’s musical, the students at East Side High are about to learn an important lesson in teamwork, while gearing up for a performance that will have their audience dancing in the aisles.

Filling these two prominent roles are two Bridgewater-Raritan High juniors, Josh Zagare, who portrays Troy, and Jayleen Alvarado, who plays Gabriella.

Each has not only learned their part in the musical but their overall role with their fellow students.

They spoke of the valuable teamwork that is shared on and off stage during a recent rehearsal in the auditorium that was held after school was dismissed

“I put my best foot forward and create a positive environment for all of us to follow,” Jayleen said. “ I speak for the both of us  (Josh) and we are all in this together.”

“There is nothing else that I would rather do than to be here and work with our friends,” Josh declared. “This is extremely fun and we do it after school every day.”

Josh added:

“We love the environment and we have created a strong bond.”

Those two leading characters represented a group who have earned the admiration of their leader.

“Behind the scenes, one of the most magical experiences about putting the show together is watching some of these young adults develop their leadership skills within the cast and crew,” Ms. Diaforli-Day said.
