Howard Duff Biography
Howard Green Duff (November 24, 1913 – July 8, 1990) was an American actor known for his work in movies and TV shows. Born in Charleston, Washington (now part of Bremerton) in 1913, he began acting in school plays after being cut from the high school basketball team. During World War II, Duff served in the United States Army Air Corps and worked in their radio service, serving as the announcer for the drama Suspense. His most memorable radio role was as Sam Spade in The Adventures of Sam Spade. Duff's career expanded into television and films, and he signed a long-term contract with Universal.
