The Business Degree Program at EWC for the Bachelors of Business Administration (B.B.A.) is accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). Additional Resources

In order to pursue a program leading to a major in Business Administration, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have at least 2.00 GPA
  • Must have C or higher grade on the following General Education courses:
    • SPC 2608 – Public Speaking or COM 2000 Introduction to Communications
    • MAC 1105 – College Algebra
    • FIN 2100 – Personal Finance; or GEB 1001 – Introduction Business
    • CGS 2060 – Introduction to Computers

Transfer students are instructed to contact the Chairman of the Department before completing the required application, in order to receive appropriate evaluations and credits from other institutions. Usually, credit is granted if the course contents are similar in nature and a grade of “C” or better was received.

Students must earn a “C” or better in certain General Education courses in order to satisfy the major in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program. These courses include:

  • ENC 1101 – English Composition I
  • ENC 1102 – English Composition II
  • SPC 2608 – Public Speaking or COM 2000 Introduction to Communications
  • MAC 1105 – College Algebra
  • MGF 2106 – Finite Math

In addition to the 38 credit hours required for the General Education, if you did not complete your foreign language requirement in High School, you must take additional 6 credit hours of foreign language as part of your program requirement.

Business Student Association (BSA)

The Student Business Association is a strong business-student activity group focused on serving the business students’ needs throughout their pursuit of academic excellence. The organization helps business students achieve efficiency and success, at both academic and professional levels.

Purpose:

  • Organize Business Administration students in a recognizable forum
  • Develop career awareness of various business occupations
  • Expose the business students to practical workshops and interactions with various corporations
  • Provide the students with knowledge of subject content and leadership skills necessary for successful mastery of Business related courses
  • Establish tutorial sessions for the business students through cooperative learning
  • Enhance relationships with other student organizations
  • Enhance identification with business-oriented students.

The Business Department proposed and implemented the creation of various tracks, rather than awarding a degree only in Business Administration. Therefore, our business graduates receive a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in the following concentrations:

The Department of Business Administration is designed for intensive student development of the whole person, body, mind, and spirit that will lead to successful career opportunities and advancement in business and industry.

The goals for the program are designed to create high quality business curricula that supports disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and professional academic excellence that meet global and 21st Century business education perspectives. In support of the College’s mission and philosophy, the Department of Business Administration’s goals are as follows:

  1. To academically and professionally prepare students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and privileges to achieve personal and professional goals.
  2. To provide academic programs, services, and instructions that support student learning and contribute to students’ intellectual development and personal growth.
  3. To foster the development of critical thinking and lifelong learning skills that cover global perspectives.
  4. To instill the importance of ethical behavior, responsibility, and effective professional conduct.
  5. To recruit and retain a diverse quality faculty/staff and support faculty participation in professional development activities.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of all course works, EWC Business students will possess competent and rounded knowledge in business administration, corporate leadership, finance, and accounting, as well as interdisciplinary skills in reading, writing, mathematics, listening, team facilitation, and the ability to demonstrate and exemplify profound spiritual and leadership values at all times, in any environment, as representatives of Edward Waters College.

Sigma Beta Delta (International Honor Society)

The mission of Sigma Beta Delta is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment among students of business, management and administration, and to encourage and promote aspirations toward personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. Sigma Beta Delta was established to honor students who have attained superior records in business programs in schools and colleges with regional accreditation.

Lifetime Membership

Membership in Sigma Beta Delta is the highest national recognition a business student can receive at a college or university with a Sigma Beta Delta chapter. To be eligible for membership, a business student must rank in the top 20 percent of the junior, senior or graduate class and be invited to membership by the faculty officers.

What Are Student Learning Outcomes?

Learning outcomes are statements of the knowledge, skills and abilities individual students should possess and can demonstrate upon completion of a learning experience or sequence of learning experiences

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students are expected to possess well-rounded knowledge and confidence in discussing, preparing; and analyzing accounting information as well as ethical issues in structured accounting profession.
  2. Students will have the ability to demonstrate competencies in preparing complex financial statements and use accounting information to make informed decisions about the operating performance and financial position of a company.
  3. Students will be able to describe all aspects of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); and the ability to demonstrate competency in accounting policies and standards.
Concentration in Business Management
  1. Students will be able to analyze a firm’s performance to determine its strengths and weaknesses, and be able to use business analytical tools to improve performance.
  2. Students will be able to apply human resource skills to complete case study assignments and participation in class discussions.
  3. Students will be able to explain the management science/operations research approach to decision making as future leaders.
Concentration in Computer Information Systems
  1. Student will demonstrate proficiency in designing efficient algorithms and programming in object-oriented and event-driven programming language.
  2. Student will demonstrate proficiency in database concepts, and proficiency in developing effective data models for manipulating data using SQL.
  3. Student will understand the concept of systems life cycle and the importance of involving users in systems design, as well as demonstrate the ability to use appropriate systems analysis and design tools and techniques including UML.
Concentration in Healthcare Management (Accelerated Program)
  1. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding strategic planning of the United States health care system
  2. Students will be able to analyze and interpret financial information specific to the healthcare setting
  3. Students will be able to understand health care policy, ethics and law
  4. Students will be able to analyze the origin, uses, and the maintenance of the various resources that are vital to the success of a healthcare organization
  5. Students will be able to demonstrate competence in health information literacy.
Concentration in International Finance & Global Trade
  1. Student will be able to compare and contrast major trade theories and policies, and their effect on international trade.
  2. Student will be able to identify how cultural variables affect domestic business that engages in international trade.
  3. Students will be able to measure a firm’s risk, explain what determines the risk, and explain how such risk affects the value of a firm in the global business arena.
Concentration in Organizational Management (Accelerated Program)
  1. Student will be able to identify dynamic groups and team activities and articulate stages of group/team functions that models leadership roles.
  2. Student will be able to understand external and internal implications of communications in management, using various steps of communication processes and channels in conflict resolution.
  3. Students will be able to apply analytical skills on business issues.
Concentration in Sports Management
  1. Students will be able to identify and analyze legal, ethical, socio-cultural issues relating to sports.
  2. Students will be able to employ principles of strategic planning, financial, and human resource functions in sports management.
  3. Students will be able to assess marketing and media needs and formulate short-term and long-term solutions patterning to sports leadership.
  4. Students will be able to apply critical thinking and abstract reasoning skills in analyzing sport management issues.
  5. Students will be able to apply personal ethics and ethical theory to issues in the business of sport.
  6. Students will be able to identify and understand the factors that shape sport in domestic and global cultures.
