Fans may have first come to know Amanda Seyfried when she played a dimwitted high-schooler in the 2004 movie Mean Girls, but the actress couldn't be less like that character in real life. The 37-year-old Seyfried is compassionate, committed to charity work—and, according to her adoring husband Thomas Sadoski, an “incredible” mom. She’s also great at her job, able to tackle Les Miserables, Mammia Mia! and Mank with the same stunning talent; she’s even got an Oscar nomination for Mank to prove it.
Since the pandemic began, Seyfried's personal life has likewise thrived. She and Sadoski not only welcomed their second child during the COVID-19 crisis, but the start of the pandemic found the Seyfried-Sadoski family quarantining at their Catskills, New York, farm, and in Seyfried’s opinion, her marriage and family got stronger. “These days, it’s been me waking up and going downstairs and drinking coffee and hanging out with my daughter and then Tommy feeding [the animals],” the Pennsylvania native said of their family’s routine in August 2021. “And you know what? Our family is still together. I definitely think my marriage is, like, even stronger.”

Who is Amanda Seyfried’s husband, Thomas Sadoski?
You may recognize Sadoski from the HBO drama The Newsroom, where he played a producer named Don Keefer.
Or, you may know him from his role alongside his wife (and Shirley MacLaine!) in the 2017 movie, The Last Word!
One of his longest-running roles was as Matthew Short in the CBS series Life in Pieces, co-starring Dianne Wiest, James Brolin and Colin Hanks.)
Sadoski grew up in a small town in Texas; he was a short-order cook before getting into acting and attended Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York City after college didn’t work out. With his talent and drive, Sadoski ultimately earned a Tony nomination for his work in the 2009 play Reasons to Be Pretty. He followed that up with The Newsroom, as well as John Wick, Wild, The Slap and other TV and film work. He was most recently in Devotion with Jonathan Majors. He was also married to his first wife, Kimberly Hope, for eight years before filing for divorce in the fall of 2015.

How did Amanda Seyfried meet her husband Thomas Sadoski?
The two first met while working on the 2015 play The Way We Get By. "We were both in bad relationships," Seyfried recalled in 2018. The pair got along well and Sadoski even supported Seyfried through panic attacks; still, because Sadoski was still in his first marriage at the time, Seyfried said they "never flirted, never disrespected his wife,” which was “another reason why I thought, later on, that I could marry him."

As for Sadoski, he described the actress 10 years his junior as the perfect scene partner at the time, while in the same interview, Seyfried said, “I feel like my whole life has changed because of this play.” Did she have any idea what was to come? Because when their relationships both ended later that year, the actress suggested Sadoski to play her love interest in The Last Word, and the rest is history.
Seyfried says she’s glad they waited until both were single to get together. “It was amazing. It felt healthy and freeing and clean. We can tell the story without any guilt,” she’s said.
Still, she worried a bit when the relationship with Sadoski was nearing the two-year mark. “I remember thinking, this might be the first time that we never say goodbye,” she said last year. “And I was scared because all my relationships had lasted two years, and I didn’t want this to end.” Luckily, they got married instead!

When did Amanda Seyfried marry Thomas Sadoski?
Seyfried and Sadoski made it official on March 12, 2017—in a very private affair just two weeks before their first child was born! “Didn’t have [a wedding reception]!” Seyfried recalled a year later. “We got married in Topanga, March last year. Just the two of us. And afterwards, I was like, ‘Can we just go to Cheebo [a restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles]?’ It was awesome.”
The nuptials were spurred on by the impending birth of their child. “I really wanted to have rings on in the hospital, you know?" she's said. "And what if something goes wrong, and he’s not legally my husband?”
Sadoski remembered the day as being fantastic, telling James Corden a week later, “It was everything it should be, it was just the two of us talking to each other… it was perfect."
Is Amanda Seyfried married to Dominic Cooper?
Only in the movies! Before he first started playing Ironman’s dad, Howard Stark, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dominic Cooper played Seyfried’s fiancé in Mamma Mia!. They did also fall in love in real life, dating from the time they met until 2010.
The end of the relationship wasn't easy for Seyfried. "I got my heart broken pretty hard. After that, it's really hard to open myself up to a new person. Really hard,” she said in 2011. But by 2013, Seyfried seemed to have healed. “We love each other… He’ll always be in my life regardless of what his girlfriends or future wife think,” Seyfried told Elle in 2013. “I’m never going to be with a guy that can’t deal with my friendship with him.”
Their history could have made for a slightly uncomfortable scenario when they played spouses in 2018’s Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. But Seyfried had married Sadoski and had a baby by then. "She's a friend," Cooper said at the time. "It was always going to be OK. You just have to be delicate with those situations." He added that it was “a pleasant atmosphere" and that "it was really interesting to see how different our lives are after 10 years. It is a long time and it was nice to spend time [with her]."
Still, Sadoski was a little jealous. "I think he has the same kind of issues that I would have if we were hanging out with his ex-girlfriend from long ago,” Seyfried said. “I think it's always like, 'I'm so in love with this person, so that person must be so in love with her too.' I'd rather he be jealous than completely fine with it."
Today, Seyfried and Cooper are still on good terms. “We’re all adults at this point. I think of Dom very fondly and Tommy trusts that,” Seyfried said in 2021. Cooper has been dating another MCU presence, Eternals star Gemma Chan, since 2018.

Cooper isn’t the only famous guy Seyfried has been with. She dated Justin Long for about two years, breaking up in 2015. “He wanted to get married, she wasn't ready to make the commitment,” a source told The Los Angeles Times. She’s also been linked to Josh Hartnett, Ryan Phillippe and Alexander Skarsgård.
Does Amanda Seyfried have kids?
The 37-year-old and her husband have two children: a daughter, Nina, born in 2018 and a son, Thomas, born in 2020.
Having her first child made her feel “empowered,” she said in 2018. “Like, I’ll say no, I can’t do that press trip, because I’m spending time with my daughter. ‘Oh, you want my top off for that part? How about we scrap that sex scene altogether? And no, I’m not wearing those thongs!’”
After becoming a mom, Seyfried was eager to have more children “I definitely want more babies,” she said. “Maybe three? Or four? Or five?” Sadoski wanted more kids too, telling Us Weekly, “Hopefully! It’s entirely up to her. She guides that ship. When she decides she’s ready to use her superpower to bring another human into the world, I’m more than happy to join up. She’s an incredible mom.”
Seyfried had her son during the pandemic, and she said it was “a silver lining” to be able to be with him during that time–and that big sister “has been a dream” with him.
Seyfried is also a dog mom! She posts pictures of her dog Finn online, calling Sadoski and Finn “⅔ of my valentines this year” on Valentine’s Day 2021.
