Tangerine is one of the two deuteragonists (along with Lemon) of the 2022 action-comedy film Bullet Train, based on Kōtarō Isaka's 2010 dark comedic thriller novel of the same name.

He and his brother Lemon are a duo of British assassins known as "The Twins", who are hired by The White Death to rescue his kidnapped Son and retrieve his ransom money. Unbeknownst to them, their mission is simply a cover for the White Death's greater plan to kill them for indirectly causing his wife's death. In the film, he is played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Appearance[]

Tangerine is a young man of average build and height with steely blue eyes. He sports a brown chevron mustache and slicked-back hair. After clinging to the back of a bullet train at high speeds, Tangerine’s hair appears disheveled and unkempt.

He wears a pale blue collared shirt underneath a navy pinstripe vest and matching pants. At the beginning of the film, he is seen wearing a dotted tie around his neck and a navy jacket over his garments, accompanied by a tan overcoat.

Personality[]

Tangerine is an eccentric, uncompromising individual. Throughout the events of the film, he is driven by a constant fear of consequences and does whatever it takes to stall his impending doom, despite knowing that there is no feasible way to overcome it. He has been described as stubborn by Lemon, and he was willing to pin the blame on Ladybug if it meant he could provide the White Death with some form of satisfaction, and perhaps spare him and his brother from a harsher punishment.

Despite his many flaws and poor sense of morality, Tangerine shows sympathy for innocent lives and prefers to avoid any needless killing, as shown when recalling the civilian casualty amid the Son's rescue operation. Furthermore, he shares an unbreakable bond with his brother Lemon, whom he loves deeply.

Biography[]

Background[]

Bolivia

The Twins on a job in Bolivia.

Tangerine is a contract killer hailing from the United Kingdom alongside his foster brother Lemon. In the past, the duo were assigned to wipe out a guerilla encampment located deep within the wet jungles of Bolivia. Unbeknownst to them, the encampment belonged to The White Death, a Russian-born crime boss in Japan, causing him to leave his wife's side and travel to South America in the wake of the massacre. While he was away, his wife was caught in the crossfire of an assassination attempt, and he was unable to save her. Wracked with grief and consumed by vengeance, The White Death hires Lemon and Tangerine for a mission on a bullet train, in the hopes that they are killed by other assassins he planted on the train.

As per their client's instructions, the duo travel to Tokyo and rescue The White Death's kidnapped Son from a Chinese Triad group in a fish market, murdering all sixteen of his captors and retrieving a silver briefcase containing The Son's ransom money. Lemon and Tangerine then board a high-speed bullet train to Kyoto with both The Son and the case in order to deliver them to The White Death, unaware that they have both walked right into his trap.
