Pursuing my Master's degree in Emergency Management has been an incredibly enriching experience, seamlessly integrating theoretical knowledge with my practical background as a firefighter. Balancing rigorous academic coursework with the demanding responsibilities of emergency response has deepened my understanding of crisis management, resilience planning, and disaster response strategies. This unique combination of academic study and hands-on experience has not only enhanced my skills in both areas but also provided me with a holistic perspective on effective emergency management practices.
As a firefighter, the journey of supporting a new baby while working tirelessly to complete my Master's in Emergency Management has been both challenging and rewarding. Balancing the responsibilities of fatherhood, professional duties, and academic pursuits has strengthened my resilience and time-management skills. This experience has reinforced my commitment to serving my community and my family, demonstrating the importance of perseverance and dedication in achieving personal and professional goals.
It is a fully online program, and so is very flexible in most cases. However, the school offers all of the courses in my major both online and in person so most of the classes are a mix of students that go to campus daily and people who don't even live in the same state. I have had group projects that have been extremely difficult to maneuver with most teammates working full time jobs on top of being full time school and also having to coordinate with different time zones.
I originally started my time at UCF as a biomedical sciences major with the aspiration of attending Physician Assistant school. A semester into my freshman year i realized i wanted to focus less on the research and laboratory side that a biomedical sciences degree would lead me to, and more of a clinical side. This revelation lead me to switch my major to health sciences and professions and the time i spent in this field of study at UCF helped shape me into the person i am today. After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree i decided to attend nursing school after taking a little break. I got my pharmacy technician’s license and currently work at a specialty pharmacy where i help dispense chemo drugs, biologics, and other life saving medications. UCF set me up for greatness and I cannot wait to see where nursing school takes me.
The MNM at the University of Central Florida has been a perfect fit for my career aspirations and personal circumstances. As a single mother of twins working full-time, the fully online format of the program has been a lifesaver. The program’s comprehensive curriculum equips me with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in nonprofit management. What stands out the most about the UCF MNM program is the quality of the faculty. The professors are not only experts in their fields but also genuinely care about their students. They are approachable and supportive, offering guidance and encouragement that extends beyond the virtual classroom. The only downside to the program is the cost. However, the investment is undoubtedly worth it given the program’s impact on my professional development and the future opportunities it opens up. With the knowledge and skills I am gaining, I am confident that I will be able to advance in my career and contribute meaningfully to the nonprofit sector.
I loved the professors and how much they cared about the students. I also loved the community that was built in the English department. I think one of the hardest parts about it was not being able to get the chance to teach at all.
The professors care about the students. They teach content but also apply it to their personal experiences and real-life scenarios. The program is challenging but each semester I learn new skills and information that helps me in my career.
My program is great. Just having financial aid issues but it’s not a UCF issue. Just should have told me ahead of time how the program was laid out so I could Have avoided the issues in having.
They only allow 40 students in the program each year. The people you start with are who you finished with. You will see the same classmates each semeter in the same class.
Was still hard finding employment in Orlando but I’m determined to continue my education.
I am in the beginning stages of the master's degree program in social work. I thoroughly enjoy learning from an online platform. The professors are skilled in a wide range of subfields within the profession. The assignments correlate with the assigned lecture readings. I believe the timing of when the professor grades the assignments sometimes puts me on edge because the rubric is compacted with to-do lists of items to cover in the papers. Overall, I am looking forward to finishing the program with high achievement scores.
I had a great time at UCF. My teachers were well informed and taught effectively. The biggest key to success at UCF was merely trying. Avoiding bad decisions, and attending all classes will put you way ahead.
UCF was a great school. I had mostly good experiences with my professors both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I got my bachelors and masters in social work there, and felt prepared to start my career after graduation.
The diverse group at UCF made my experience better outside of class. Working with people from different backgrounds taught me how important it is to value other points of view and how powerful it is to work together. Study projects and student groups taught me essential leadership, teamwork, and resilience skills.
My time studying at the University of Central Florida has been a life-changing experience since it has allowed me to combine challenging academics with opportunities for personal development through graduate teaching assistantship employment and involvement in the community. My worldview was challenged and stretched as soon as I stepped into the dynamic campus of the University of Central Florida (UCF), where I was immediately immersed in a diverse learning environment.
UCF classes went beyond lectures, i.e., the REAL mode, to encourage critical thinking and spirited discussions. Professors mentored students and fostered curiosity and understanding. From science to humanities, each course extended my perspective and improved my analytical skills. I discovered my strengths, growth potential, and tenacity while juggling academics and personal obligations.

Enjoying UCF love the interaction and appreciate the flexiablity to take classes online as well as on campus
I really appreciate how the faculty genuinely want to help and support you. I have access to so many people that want to point me towards the right direction, no matter how simplistic the answers are to my questions.
