Promising PSG defender Timothee Pembele, a Paris Saint-Germain Academy product, has officially moved to English EFL Championship side Sunderland on a permanent transfer, the club confirmed on Friday.

Originally hailing from Beaumont-sur-Oise in Val d'Oise, Pembele began his football journey at the Centre de Preformation back in 2015, when he was just 15 years old. Fast forward two years and the young talent clinched the French league title with Paris Saint-Germain's U17 squad, marking a promising start to his career in Paris.

Pembele's journey towards professional football took a substantial step in 2018 when he inked his first professional contract with PSG. Notably, he was part of the squad during the dramatic UEFA Champions League Final 8 in Lisbon back in August 2020, where PSG reached the final but ultimately lost to Bayern Munich.

The versatile defender, who can play both at full-back or center-back, gradually worked his way into PSG's senior squad the following season. During his tenure at PSG, Pembele made his first-team debut, amassing nine appearances and netting one goal.

In the 2021-22 season, Pembele embarked on a loan spell at Bordeaux, where he showcased his skills in 28 appearances, scoring three goals. He returned to Paris Saint-Germain at the onset of the 2022-23 season, contributing to the club's 11th French league title with six appearances across all competitions.

Pembele's impressive journey through the French national teams began with the U16s, where he accumulated 11 caps. He continued to progress through the ranks, earning nine caps with the U17s and U18s, netting three goals in the process. His achievements led to a call-up to the U21 squad for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where he featured in one match.

Facing a difficult situation to crack the XI of PSG this season and in future years, Timothee Pembele communicated his intentions to move on from PSG to the brass of Paris Saint-Germain and they found the best possible solution for all parties with the young Frenchman signing to play football in England.
