If you are looking for an experience in a city, Worcester is not it. Other than that WPI is a great school.
I am very glad I went to WPI - the project based learning helped greatly as I entered the workforce and continues to do so even 6 years later. I feel like it's a bit of a hidden gem in the engineering school area. If you are interested in science/engineering I would seriously recommend WPI.
I am someone who hates school, but WPI makes me wish I liked the American education system because it's a fire school. The curriculum challenges students (especially softeng, which was one of my favorite classes) and the project-based methodology encourages students to gain experience and reach their full potential. IMGD classes are the most fun I've ever had in school, and I learned a lot about the world in general from the introductory course. Everyone hates on the food, but I don't see a problem. Anyways try goat cheese
WPI as a school was fantastic. There was always a huge amount of support from professors and faculty. We could even speak with the principal about our goals and dreams in life. The STEM classes were great and always offered extra help. The campus/dorms were very friendly and safe. There were tons of athletic programs for students to excel at too. Clubs were another great part of campus life. There was a club for every hobby, activity, or passion a student could have. Overall, WPI was a great school to attend.
The school fulfills its purpose with a high degree of quality, not only introducing students to concepts but also their applications, as well as assisting in the development of practical skills, through both classes and clubs.
I like the campus—it is a bit small but there is usually something happening whether it be a school sanctioned event, greek event, or just people being out and about on the quad. I would love to see more food diversity in the dining halls because WPI preaches that they make it safe for everyone to eat in the dining areas but that is not always correct.
WPI has great academics, the school really prepared me to be a working engineer. I enjoyed being apart of WPI BS/MS program which allowed me to get my bachelors and masters degree in 4 years. The fast paced classes sometimes felt overwhelming but the professors at WPI are great and because everyone is a STEM major theres a lot of comradery so it never felt lonely. Campus housing for underclassmen is standard. I only lived on campus for freshmen year and then moved to the apartments near campus. This allowed me to have my own room, our own bathroom and our own kitchen and I had my car. Living in the apartments in Worcester I felt safe as the WPI police still patrol the area and I was able to save a lot of money. Campus life can be fun when you have time but at least when I was there Greek life/sports seemed to dominate social life. The Worcester area itself has improved a lot and by my senior year I was fully enjoying going to restaurants, Woo sox games etc.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) provides a strong education in STEM fields. WPI also has several clubs and student-led organizations as well as NCAA Division III Athletics.
The school is very good but full of people with imposter syndrome. Student life is very stressful and fast-paced with how classes are run, and the campus provides little to no support for this 90% of the time. It feels like you are constantly competing with/being compared to your fellow students all the time. Regardless, it does an incredible job of preparing its undergraduates for higher education/entering the workforce.
Very challenging academics, although the professors really want to see you succeed. Definitely get involved with clubs or extra curriculars.
Quality of professors and courses can vary greatly, some are excellent while others are lacking. The education is rather heavy in homework, so getting it done through the week is the best way to go about it. Registering for classes for the second half of freshmen year is stressful as there is a chance one may not even get their prerequisite courses at the time registration opens. They solved this problem by opening more classes, but I would have liked to see this done beforehand. Maybe the administration could have done a survey polling students on which classes they wanted to take, and adjust the classing accordingly. I would also like to see more effort put into the dining hall food, as it is severely lacking effort.
A multidisciplinary experience that has stimulated personal growth and strengthened my endurance in academic rigor and project pace while being immersed in collegiate athletics that encourages a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
The academics are fast paced but the project based learning makes it worth it. Socially, I have found my people and made a good amount of friends.
I liked math and science in high school, so I decided to major in mechanical engineering. Obviously, this is a good fit if you want to be a well-trained engineer. However, it is difficult to think of anything positive to say about the city of Worcester. It is ugly and big, and you will not have much access to nature. There’s nothing special about WPI’s campus or dining options. The humanities courses are often disappointing. The orchestra is not talented, and you have to pay out of pocket if you want to take music lessons.
I really like the size of WPI for both the student population and the campus size. The size of the student population is small enough that you feel like part of a student community and can recognize most faces on campus. But at the same time, the population is large enough that you can always make new friends. The size of the campus is perfect for me because my classes are in different buildings for the most part, so I don't feel stuck in the same place all day. The campus is small enough, however, that I can walk anywhere on campus within 10 minutes.
From an academic perspective, it's really nice that almost everyone here is studying engineering, it gives the impression that everyone is going through a similar experience. As a result it is easy to reach out to friends for help or advice.
One thing that I would like to see change is a greater investment in student life. While WPI features a large number of clubs, there are relatively few things for students to do outside of clubs.

I like how you get through classes pretty quickly. So if there is a class you are not really into, it wouldn’t last the whole semester. I would change how some classes are broken down in terms of graded categories
WPI is a fast paced learning environment. It is not a big party scene but there is always something to do. There a on campus events every single day from various clubs and organizations. Every student and staff for the most part are very nice and kind to one another. It is a great place to attain knowledge and build professional network. Though it cost alot to attend
Things are going great for me. I enjoy the class schedule. It's fast-paced but I still have time for the many extracurriculars that I do. I also love the size of the school. Growing up in a very small town, large universities feel very intimidating to me. I feel like am part of a community where I belong.
I have been at WPI for a semester now and I love it. I am on the varsity Track and Field Team and this is where I found most of my friends and social life, which is great. I have a great social life and can balance academics easily. I finished of my first year as a computer science major with a 4.0 and I loved it.
WPI has been a perfect fit for my journey of engineering, the project-based learning has allowed me to grow my experience in working with others and working with hands on projects. With my biggest projects still ahead of me I look forward to my remaining time at WPI
