    Fabulous edifice
It’s a fabulous edifice opposite the main railway station. In the grand Neo-Classical style it has a row of stately Corinthian columns at the main entrance. Numerous sculptures decorate the eastern façade. Including of the Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield. Classically themed monuments number Triton and a Nereid both supporting a cornucopia, These serve as lampholders. Didn’t get to see the interior, but here is the magnificent Great Hall, amongst numerous other rooms such as concert venues.

    Do The Tour!
I've been to St George's Hall a few times recently but this review is based on the tour I did a week ago. You have to do the tour! There is so much about this building that you cannot grasp unless you do this tour. The history is very colourful with prison cells, courtroom drama and of course, the beautiful rooms that blow you away when you visit. It's scrumptious I am sure to have a wedding here in such beautiful surroundings but as a history enthusiasts, this place ticks so many of my 'curiosity' boxes.

A must see and the most wonderful guides!
We paid for a guided tour and it was well worth every penny! The guides we had were Paul, Pam and Richard and they were all truly wonderful! :-) They explained all of the history behind St George's Hall with great knowledge, passion & enthusiasm! They answered all our questions and made it a truly magical and memorable experience. It was a spur of the moment decision to do a tour, and we were so pleased that we did it! Thank you so much to you all! St. Georges Hall is steeped in history...and well worth a visit. The main hall is so lavish and one of the most beautiful buildings in the world that we have ever seen.

We expected good, we got great!
The Minton Tile Experience. We went on the guided tour expecting to just see (and walk on!) the wonderful tiled floor of the Great Hall. In itself that would have been worth the price as it is stunning, but the unexpected bonus was a guided tour of the cells and courtroom below. Another world! Our guide, in Victorian costume, was knowledgeable, engaging and humorous as only a Scouser can be. We learned so much fascinating history about the hall and the city. What a treat!

    Minton Tiles experience was superb
What a fabulous couple of hours exploring the cells, courts and then the Hall itself; and for the first time ever, being able to walk on the tiles and have all the symbolism and history explained and get a Birds Eye view from the balcony and see the ceiling and chandeliers in all their glory. James, our guide was no knowledgeable, interesting and informative and his voice projection was excellent. Highly recommended

Minton Floor exhibit worth going to see
Decided to do the Minton floor at St George's Hall we paid the ÂŁ5 fee in advance but some people were able to get slots on the day. The staff were very friendly and directed us around the building to where the exhibition was. We've been in the building several times before and in this room but it was a totally different experience this time with the floor exposed. Although you couldn't walk on the main area you could walk around, take photos and spend as much time there as you wanted. Lovely to see such fine architecture and statues as well as the floor in such detail. Definitely worth a visit

    The Minton Tile Experience
This was an amazing fully guided tour taking in the cells, climbing up the stairs into the Crown Court Dock. From there we had a visual history of the Minton Floor and then to actually be allowed to walk on the floor was amazing. I have to mention that the guide James was really good. His knowledge was fantastic. Would highly recommend this tour.

    Don’t miss this opportunity
We were lucky to be in Liverpool for this opportunity, I knew it was rarely uncovered in the past and my Mum saw it many years ago. We were not disappointed, Jack our humorous guide relayed tales of the cells and historic courtroom before donning our overshoes to gain entry to the truly magnificent hall with the floor in all its glory. I can fully recommend this tour.

Watch for added ticket protection insurance on top of commission
Very interesting architecture, excellent ornate ceiling and Minton tile floor. Informative guided tour. The only disappointment was having to purchase unwanted ticket protection insurance on top of the ticket office commission. The tickets are on a basis of insurance being automatically added and you have to then deselect it afterwards but deselect function not working so choice was either no tickets or include unwanted ticket insurance ,No reply from St Georges hall customer service when I contacted them about this and no reply from Ticketquarter agency (the site linked to St Georges Hall book ticket function) when I indicated that the deselect function was not working. It would make more sense for customers to have the option to actively add insurance if they wanted it rather than have to try to deselect unwanted insurance. A bit of a shame -the attraction was good but the business practice is a bit of a let down.

Minton Tiles - always worth a visit
Minton tiles here are always worth a visit. We have seen them before but chose to visit again and learned more again on this visit. Interesting video introduction but feel this would be better in a separate room with seats, as I felt we were in the way at the entrance and couldn't concentrate particularly well. Enjoyed the information around the edges of the hall with the statues and also enjoyed the childrens activity booklets (I'm 67) and found them very informative. Staff were also friendly and eager to help.

I have both performed and visited with this beautiful, historic building many times and so was really looking forward to seeing the History whisperer. I was lucky enough to get tickets for £1 each. To be honest, after visiting, I am so glad that I only paid £1 per ticket as I really would have been disappointed if I had paid full price for this. We were hurried around the display and did not get to even see the video in the third self and could not interact with all of the pictures on the walls. The sound quality was appalling and the music was extremely distracting. The concept is really good but I don’t feel that it was done very well at all. I feel as if it was trying to be too artistic. Style over content. We were all really disappointed

My husband and I went to St Georges Hall to take part in the History Whisperer Tour. It started with a video about a 12 year old girl called Livie and her brother in the 1800s and the tour carried on to tell what happened to them. Unfortunately the tour is on a timed loop and after the initial video we were taken to a cell for the next part of the story but the sound wasn't working and someone had to be called out to remedy it. Because of this we managed to see the video in the second cell and then it shut down to tell us to move to the court room which meant we couldn't see the video in the third cell. After watching the court video we asked if we could go back to see the third cell video. The volunteer guide went to ask but unfortunately the next group were going round and because it was timed we weren't able to go back. We were very disappointed by this and the other major criticism we had was that the music that was playing behind the talking on the videos was far too loud and it meant that we were unable to hear all of the story and when the judge was giving his verdict we missed most of it. Neither my husband or I have hearing problems and we weren't the only ones in our group who also had the same problem so it needs rectifying for future tours.

A couple of years ago the cells, court, judge’s office and hall (upper) were all free of charge and self guided.

Recently attended history whispers to show my girlfriend the hall tour as this is now the only impromptu way to see the hall.
Tour mainly consisted of being subjected to multiple amateur drama videos very arthouse that i found annoying.

Wasn’t able to enjoy the building and felt very trapped, please go back to self guided and consider multi language audio guides.
I regularly visit historic buildings both in the UK and EU and this model works well.
By all means still charge as I understand these things need funding and staff in place to guard against vandalism.

To summarise, Please get rid of history whispers and go to a self guided tour with audio guides with more of the halls rooms on display.
Lets make this the historical attraction it deserves to be in line with other major cities across Europe.

This is an amazing building and it's well worth seeing the inside as well as the outside (which one can't miss). I think there are two tours and we were only able to go on the one to the cells and court, although we did have a peep into the main hall. We didn't see the concert room or the civil court (and there must be acres of the lower parts that the public never see!).
The tour had a good guide but most of it is done with audio-visuals which were not as good. The telling of the stories was slow, we spent too long looking at the cells and the presentation in the court itself was difficult to follow. Too much distracting music, echoing sound and not enough actual narrative. Overall "too arty".
What I would recommend is the little cafe near the entrance - superb pies at a very reasonable price.

This is a very impressive building from the outside but even more interesting inside . Entry is via a side door which leads you into a information / reception area which also has a nice little cafe . I think they do organised tours but you are able to do it in your own . The way to go is well sign posted and takes you through the building in a good and informative way . The holding cells have old photographs which I found especially poignant . The court room is impressive although it must have been terrible for the people brought there . The journey ends with a view of grand hall which I believe is used for special events . Worth an hour of your time and it’s free .

A building that never seemed to be open when we were in town...until it was! A really nice little walking tour takes you round the building, explaining what it was previously used for. The guides are great and the interior well worth experiencing.

A tour of the building is a must. At the entrance you will be greeted by friendly and knowledgeable guides who introduce you to the history and importance of the building before they set you off on a tour of the goal cells, the court room, judges chamber and final the actual hall.
Unfortunately we couldn't go into the actual hall because it was being set up for an event but you get an excellent view from the galleries but you are unable to see the complete ceiling. I popped back a couple of days later and viewed the wonderful ceiling from the hall floor.

There is a wonderful experience to be had here at the moment which I really recommend. It's The History Whisperer exhibit. Its led by knowledgable and enthusiastic volunteers and supported in essence by excellent videos telling the history of the cells and the court, how people were given the harshest sentences for
minor infringements and transported to Australia to serve long and arduous sentences and essentially to populate the country. This was a highlight in our packed stay in the city. Don't this it.

Nice cafe to rest before or after.

Another superb organ recital by Ian Tracy - the city organist and wow does he know how to make the Willis Organ sing. Was quite wonderful. The hall of course is magnificent and worth a vist but certainly worth looking up the dates for the lunchtime recitals and spend a super 45 minutes having your ears cleared out !! Brilliant

Without a shadow of a doubt one of Liverpool's most beautiful buildings is St George's Hall.
Situated on St George's Place opposite Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station, the hall looks amazing, constructed between 1841 - 1854 by at first architect Harvey Lonsdale Elmes ,he died during the build and the final work was carried out by Robert Rawlinson,John Weightman and finally Charles Cockerell.
Opened in 1854 ,its a beautiful Grade I listed building, a great example of Neoclassical architecture and adds to the joy of visiting the William Brown Street conservation area.
Approaching the building there are a wide set of steps with the statue of Benjamin Disraeli plus a statue to Major General William Earle, the impressive columns of the hall look superb ,very photogenic, makes for some great photographic opportunities, its such a beautiful structure especially when illuminated at night, the interior is no less stunning and is definitely well worth checking out.
St George's Hall is most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area or planning a trip to Liverpool and is easy to locate along William Brown Street on St George's Place in an area of outstandingly beautiful architecture.
