Excellent Hotel with Brothel on the 6th Floor

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 23, 2014
This was an excellent hotel, with large rooms, and luxurious all-marble bathrooms with glass/rain showers and and great lighting, motorized curtains and a huge flatscreen television. The service was excellent, except only expect 1 or 2 people at the front desk to speak English. There was a good assortment of restaurants filling 3 floors of the hotel, but we never tried them. I had a margarita in the lounge that was about 1 oz. and didn't seem to contain any tequila I've ever tasted.

The health club and pool were excellent. The hotel is very elegant and well-maintained, but this is not the most fashionable address in Beijing, but it is convenient to downtown.

My only 'objection' to this hotel was the club the hotel runs on the sixth floor. When I went to the gym there were more than 100+ very beautiful women parading down the hall in uniforms that looked like flight attendants. It could of been a Singapore Air training session was my initial impression. My eyes popped out of my head until I noticed the look of consternation from my Chinese girlfriend. She informed me they were all prostitutes! Then I began to notice a regular stream of Chinese businessmen going to the 6th floor. And it wasn't subtle: every time my girlfriend entered the hotel, she received a text message from the hotel telling her about all the available women on the sixth floor. She was quite offended as I'm sure many other guests would be.

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed my stay here. The price was reasonable and it is located a block from the famous CCTV building and it is faster to walk to CBD or the subway than taking a taxi. Also, there is a great Western-style coffee house in the bank building next door. Just take a left out the front entrance.

Note: never order salmon in Beijing--it's never seems to be salmon, or at least it is very white in color.

Room Tip: Females: you might want to accompany your husbands to the health club on the 6th floor if you are...

The Radegast Hotel is a beautiful and elegant place to spend your nights in Beijing.

Located in CBD it is (somewhat) near the many night time Beijing attractions. From the moment you enter, you're presented with a grand and luxurious lobby with sky high ceilings, a self-playing piano, and a tasteful fountain.

The rooms are equally nice with quality shower and bath furnishings, a plush couch on which to rest, a host of amenities and other delightful features.

It is also very modestly priced - if booked in advanced. If booked last minute on the other hand, prices would be much higher.

This is my second visit. The first time is in the autumn of 2012. The hotel still looks new and clean.

Hotel location is not closed to the metro station. You need to take 15 minutes walk to the nearest metro station. It is not easy for you to find a cab in Beijing during the peak hours. You should reserve more time to arrive your destination in the morning if you have not reserved any car.

Room is clean, bright and spacious. The room facilities are user friendly, e.g. automatic curtain, a box next to bed for the storage of accessories. Wifi service is good and stable. The room was a little bit hot but I cannot make any temperature change by the temperature control.

Breakfast is okay, but there is not enough staff. You need to wait several minutes if you want to have noodle or omelette cooked by chef.

Stayed here for a couple of days because of its proximity to the place of work. While the hotel has all the facilities and amenities of a 5-star hotel claimed, the provision is really more akin to 4-star by international standard.

The overall impression one gets is that the decor is rather aged and needs updating. The guestroom is clean and tidy, though a little lacking in lighting for reading and work; nevetheless, wifi service is excellent and reliable. The buffet breakfast offers a fair selection of food but is pricey for its quality while even the hot food was not sufficiently warmed up. The location is a good 10-15 minutes' walk from the closest metro station and areas of acitivites, and could be a testing walk on bitterly cold winter days in Beijing.

Not particularly a tourist hotel as such, but a comfortable enough choice in Beijing CBD if one's place of activities is close by.

Stayed at Radegast for 10 days. The hotel is conveniently located close to our CBD offices. For visiting the city center, cheap taxis are always available so that is not an issue at all! Hotel surroundings have not much to offer in the evenings. But I did not feel unsafe in the area.

Hotel rooms are nice, although without a real view as flanked by other building on one side and a bus depot on other side. Never have I slept in such a huge king size bed. Rooms are decently equipped with good furniture. Both wifi and cable internet are offered.

Bathroom is spacious and clean. The rain-shower however was a bit of a disappointment.

Breakfast is OK for my European taste. The fresh fruit selection was every day one of my favorites.

Front desk staff however is the disappointment. For dealing with international guests some more flexibility and problem solving attitude would be appreciated. I may not speak Chinese; I do understand when people are making fun of me…

Other staffs, especially the trainees are very friendly and helpful.

While this isn't a mind-blowing hotel, it's a good solid choice in all departments - clean, spacious rooms, reasonable breakfast choices, excellent bathroom/shower, efficient variable air conditioning, good fast wifi, polite staff with a reasonable knowledge of English. You won't come away feeling you've had an unforgettable experience, but it's good value.

A useful tip for those who don't speak Mandarin is that there's an excellent, inexpensive restaurant with menus in English on the first floor of a business complex on the diagonally opposite corner - it's not advertised at street level but if you cast your eyes upwards you'll see people munching away If you do speak some Mandarin and/or want a more all-Chinese experience, there's an inexpensive place from the spicier northern region a few doors down to the left of the hotel.
