As a lifelong cinema goer I"m used to 5 or 10 minutes of adverts prior to the start of the film. That's not the limit at the Dulwich Picture House (DPH). They went on and on and on and on and on. And on and on and on. Thirty soul sucking minutes of adverts. Never, anywhere, in any situation in life, have I ever been subjected to a 30 minute block of wall to wall advertising - and ads you cannot turn off, cannot even turn the sound down - you have no choice but to endure it. It creates a toxic mix of fury and boredom as a prelude to the film you are aching to see. As far from an ideal mood maker as you can get. And why are DPH pumping their captive audiences full of this dross? The only answer I can think of is greed. More and more advertising revenue. That's on top of revenue from our ticket price.

Sadly, I'd recommend you think twice about visiting DPH, unless you have a really tough skin. Or turn up half an hour late. Shame on you, DPH.

This is a pleasant suburban cinema showing a reasonable selection of blockbuster movies. It was refurbished a few years ago, and presents a good local alternative to travelling into the river west End, to the likes of Leicester Square, for the blockbuster movie experience.

We’ve been twice in the past couple of months, once in November and again in January. Our experiences on both occasions were very positive. The complex has three screens; they are not huge by any means,. The main ‘big’ screen seats about 70 I would say. It has a number of ‘sofa seats’ (for 2) at the back, for an additional fee, of course. The other two screening rooms are slightly smaller. However, the seats are stepped appropriately, and the screens are appropriate to cinema size, so you’ll get the full ‘movie effect’ without anything being compromised. Seating is very comfortable, and the sound appropriate, without being ‘booming’.

Ticket prices are comparable with cinemas in the West End; of course prices vary according to time and screening, and there is a small discount (of £1.00) for those viewers who are ‘retired’. I’m not sure what you have to show to confirm you are ‘retired’.

The cinema has all the usual cinema snacks - popcorn and the like - at the expected high prices. There’s a cafe serving a variety of hot and cold drinks as well as more substantial meals, though I’ve not used those facilities (and in many respects there is no need, as the picture house is on the bust and popular Lordship Lane, filled to the brim with cafes, restaurants and pubs).

The cinema is very popular with locals, so it’s best to book tickets in advance. The movie selection seems to be current, with a range of blockbusters, arthouse films and classics on show.

The cinema is comfortable, warm, nicely appointed and contemporary. It’s a great alternative to cinemas in the West End! East Dulwich rail station (with connections to London Bridge) is about a 15 minute walk away.

I came to this Cinema on the 10th January to see West Side Story. My first impression was good. Staff were excellent, polite and friendly especially at the bar and the cinema itself (screen 3) was small and cosy with very comfortable seats.
The film was Amazing and I would definitely see it again.
What ruined the experience for me was the family sat behind me. Child was munching away through the entire film on popcorn (Small cinema so you can hear everything) and the Mother was boozing away on a bottle of wine that was given to her in a metal ice bucket. I could hear it clanking every time she poured herself a glass.
If the wine is chilled before sale give customers a plastic ice bucket and if you’re hungry eat before you go to the cinema.
How many people eat popcorn at home when they watch a film ? Please remove popcorn from your beautiful cinema and if people must eat during a film sell something that isn’t noisy to eat.
Fantastic Cinema and I will be back.

Came here to watch 1917 one Sunday afternoon. The raked seating is such that even an average height person can partially obscure your view of the screen. We’d bought our tickets online but queued (and queued) for popcorn - they do charge a lot and make you wait a long time in that queue because it is the same queue (and server) for tickets, coffee, alcoholic drinks and popcorn.

Just had a regular cup of cappuccino at East Dulwich Picture House. The worst coffee I've had. Not a decent cup at all.

Lovely location but bad experience ordering food arrived 20 minutes before screening started ordered ordered toasted sandwich and natchos thinking had plenty of time and cinema not that busy as early showing. Got to screening time and still no food so.asked for boxes to take in they then started to toast bread for sandwich waited 10 more minutes at counter. Told by a member of waiting staff to sit down and wait as only missing adverts! No apology at all her attitude was rude considering we were the customers and been waiting so long already finally received order still no apology just dirty looks from same member of waiting staff.. sandwich was stone cold but too late to complain as already missed beginning of movie. Shocked at this service from the picture house group as normally a lovely experience visiting one of their cinemas. Probably give this one a miss until staff are given a better better customer service training

Wonderful seats - especially the doubles at the back - really comfortable. Great sound - it doesn’t boom. But the cafe is amateurish. Rubbish burgers. Mac and cheese was ok. A pity

First time visit. Went to see Amazing Grace, starring Aretha. Very relaxed atmosphere, pleasant surroundings and a variety of comfortable sitting areas. Staff were polite and welcoming. The auditorium was comfortable, clean and relaxing. Although I found the tickets to be expensive, the cost can be reduced through membership. Overall I found the experience a good one and would definitely go back.
