Stop by if you're in the area
This is the tallest university building in the Western Hemisphere, and it's claim to fame are its nationality rooms, representing the different cultural groups that make up Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, there were no tours available when I was there, and you could peer into just one of the rooms. Even so, it was still cool to walk around the cavernous Commons Room. I wouldn't make a special trip here, but it's nice to admire the collegiate Gothic architecture for a few minutes if you're in the Oakland neighborhood.

    Fascinating!
This place alone would make Pittsburgh worth a visit; I don’t think there’s anyplace else like it, anywhere! Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the rooms were beautiful, highly varied, and fascinating. Normally the tours are limited to a dozen or so rooms, so we may visit again at holiday time, because our guide told us that all of the rooms are decorated for the holidays, and they’re all open for visiting.

    Beautiful building!
Though we have only gotten to experience the outside, this building has an absolutely gorgeous exterior! Fountains, flowers, stone stairs, etc…We had an up close and personal view during a game of CluedUpp this past summer. I loved being able to snap a few photos that can look back on as part of our time in the city. I hope to make a trip inside in the future!

    Unique temple of learning.
Visible from the great distance this 1926 skyscraper and Pittsburgh’s major landmark was designed to be a true cathedral of learning. Distinctive, stylized neo gothic vertical design is eye pleasing and exciting. Visiting the interior was indeed similar to visiting a European cathedral. Very high cellings in many areas , somewhat dark interiors, spaces filled with modern day students . Walking through the first floor you come out to see the opposing structures of the complex and the backyard . Step into some of the adjacent rooms. The details and accessorizing are impressive. It is good to see the students everywhere hard at their work.

I walked around the Cathedral of Learning located in the Pitt campus by myself. That was probably the best decision because I could see everything I wanted without being slowed down. It will make you feel like you are in Hogwarts. I visited in the summer so there were limited students studying. I didn’t get a tour guide to unlock the other rooms designed to reflect different cultures around the world. I did see the classrooms that were open to the public.

Architecturally neat place to visit. Different rooms designed to honor different cultures. Different room are open on different days. You can take an elevator to 36th floor for a great view (free). An optional paid audio tour is available

The Cathedral of Learning is the tallest college building in the United States. It's easily visible from many parts of Pittsburgh. We walked around the outside. Unfortunately, visitors are restricted to peeking into the main room because of covid protocols.

Visited here the day that they had a culture fair. We went to many rooms of the building where the different countries had exhibits. The rooms were beautiful. The Hungarian room had beautiful stained glass windows. The building is huge. the different countries had items for sale in the corridors. Prices were reasonable. We visited late in the afternoon so didnt get to see the entire building but were extremely impressed with what all it offered. Students go there and study as well.
Hope to go back in 2023. Would highly recommend seeing this beautiful building which is a Pittsburgh landmark.

The Cathedral of Learning is one of the most iconic buildings in all of Pittsburgh. It's a 42-stories high, gothic revival beautiful building. it's in the same university vicinity and the Carnegie Museum of Art and History is just nearby. it is 535 feet tall and listed as the world's second-tallest university building.

it also has a food court where visitors can grab a bite while exploring the impressive building's interior. We did not get much time to explore all but a few areas- though look stunning from the outside.

We were disappointed that on the day of our visit (a weekday in July), none of the Nationality classrooms were open to view. We could look in one room in the interior of the building, but no classrooms. There also was no one at the gift/visitor area although the light was on (we did look through a book on display and the rooms looked really interesting). The staff near the elevators were no help about when the Nationality rooms might be open (actually said they were located on floors 1-5) . We did take the elevator to the top (almost the top) to take in the view, but overall we’re disappointed the rooms were not open and we could not get any information about when they might be able to be seen.
