I bought the original CD release of When Day and Dream Unite and have been a Dream Theater fan ever since. This rerelease of the live Bootleg of this live performance is something I have been waiting for for years. DT have released many great Bootleg recordings via their old Yste Record label. I have their complete live cover version Iron Maiden’s Number of The Beast which is awesome. The Jam on The Epic song The Killing Hand is priceless and Light Fuse and Get Away is incredible. The highlight of this release is the awesome version of Metropolis Part 1, that is performed with both James Labrie and original singer Charlie Dominici who has a very unique and amazing voice. A must have for Dream Theater fans or just fans of incredible music pushing the limits.

Dream Theater's "When Dream And Day Reunite (Live)" in the "Lost Not Forgotten Archives" series is a welcome entry, for those of us who did not purchase the CD previously, when it was available from the band on YtseJam records. YtseJam however had a wide array of official bootlegs, and I did purchase this particular landmark performance on DVD, but didn't think to buy the CD, when previously available. In my opinion, the sound quality is comparable to what was released before, having watched the DVD numerous times, and I actually started looking for the CD roughly 2 years ago, in an effort to complete my official bootlegs section of the Dream Theater catalog, but was unable to find the CD at a reasonable price. This being said, this is a must-have CD, which captures the lineup at the time performing the bands debut album from beginning to end, with the addition of two extra tracks, featuring additional previous members. My reason for not giving this five stars is the sparse packaging, and lack of any worthwhile detail regarding the show. Additionally, the DVD could have easily been packaged in with the CD, for those who were unaware of the previous official bootleg releases. I am looking forward to future releases of official bootlegs that I previously passed on when they were available, and I'm hoping that Inside Out Records can offer us the two CD sets of other official bootlegs, including the "When Dream And Day Unite Demos 1987-1989", as well as some of the DVDs, as there has been no talk about those that I'm aware of...

Dream theater is appartently opening the vault and releasing a cd a month for a while of older material probably to screw up the bootleggers who have probably made a mint releasing many unreleased material.I have 5-6 of these so far, the sound is decent. If you are a dream theater fan or collector you will not be disappointed. Buy them all!

This album was originally released on Dream Theater's official bootleg label [which has since been dropped] and "remastered" for this series. It includes the entire first album done live.
While the original album was with vocals Charlie Dominici, Dominici joins the live show and does vocals only on the 2 extra tracks from around that era.
Also joining was Derek Sherinian who did keyboard on the track Metropolis - Part 1 which appeared on the second album Images & Words.
