Produced by Sheldon Reynolds, filmed and scored in France, 39 specially written thirty-minute TV films were made starring Ronald Howard as Holmes and Howard Marion Crawford as Watson. Ronald Howard (b. 7 April 1918, d. 19 December 1996) was the son of the actor Leslie Howard, with whom he appeared in "Pimpernel Smith". Howard Marion-Crawford (b. 17 January 1914, d. 24 November 1969) is one of those rare Holmes-Watson actors. He was Holmes to Finlay Currie's Watson in a 1948 BBC radio production of The Speckled Band.
