Frequently
asked questions

What makes Journal Home different from other channels?

The most effective way to drive journal awareness, consideration, and ultimately authorship is by building a highly relevant audience for your journals over time. ResearchGate has always been a place where researchers go to discover new articles and journals. With Journal Home, we make your journals and their content first-class citizens on ResearchGate – providing unprecedented visibility, discoverability, and access to your journals on the platform.

Unlike traditional marketing campaigns, Journal Home is an always-on product that continuously builds an audience for your journals and influences them throughout their natural research cycle from readership to authorship. It is a highly relevant, highly contextual, and non-intrusive new way of growing your journals - leveraging the organic and natural ways researchers are interacting on ResearchGate to ensure your journals are always top-of-mind at the most relevant points of researchers' journeys.

Additionally, because ResearchGate has access to unique information about our users and their behaviours on the platform, we are able to provide powerful reporting on your audiences that other marketing channels can’t match. In this way, Journal Home becomes a product not only for marketers to get audience insights that can inform their strategic marketing decisions, but also for the entire publishing team to better understand their readers and authors and better develop their journals.

Lastly, with Journal Home, you get access to a direct COUNTER-compliant usage data feed that automatically feeds your data platform with the usage data of the syndicated journals on our platform. This augments your native platform usage data and can be incorporated into your institutional reports to provide additional value to your customers.

What is the pricing model for Journal Home?

Journal Home is an annual subscription product per journal – please contact us for more information on what a subscription could look like for your journals.

Journal Home is an annual, always-on product that engages your target audience year-round and plugs directly into their research cycle – growing your journals’ reach, visibility, usage and authorship.

Does Journal Home support OA, hybrid, or subscription journals?

Journal Home supports all types of journals. Our publisher partners have effectively included OA, subscription, and hybrid content in their partnerships.

To handle entitlement of subscription content, we use an entitlement system that uses a combination of IP address and profile-based entitlement authentification, which allows for both on- and off-campus access to your content.

How does content syndication on ResearchGate work?

We use an automated process to bring your version-of-record content onto ResearchGate. For subscription content, we use a combination of IP address and profile-based entitlement authentication to make your content is only accessible to entitled readers through ResearchGate.

Will this cannibalize our existing readership on our native platforms?

We’ve seen no cannabalization of native platform usage in any of our current partners. Additionally, we only have data that indicates that the audience accessed through Journal Home on ResearchGate is highly incremental for publishing partners.
