Gabrielle Rivera Autostraddle For a debut film, Dirty Girl is fun to watch, filled with stellar performances and reminds people over the age of 19 why it's sooo awesome to not be a teenager anymore. Jun 11, 2021 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com This is a fearless performance but one that doesn't forget to be genuine and real, Danielle's emotional transformation stirring, oftentimes powerful and, in my opinion, difficult to forget. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 27, 2012 Full Review Rick Groen Globe and Mail Dirty Girl isn't. Sorry, but it's just faux grime, a thin layer of bad behaviour that wipes clean with a two-ply tissue to reveal the real movie beneath - all shiny sentimentality. Rated: 2/4 Oct 21, 2011 Full Review Michelle da Silva Georgia Straight Growing up gay in 1980s Oklahoma could not have been easy, but writer-director Abe Sylvia and the cast of his debut feature Dirty Girl make it look like a helluva lot of fun. May 3, 2017 Full Review Kristal Cooper We Got This Covered Dirty Girl is an off beat gem that's well worth the bidding war it inspired at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Rated: 7.5/10 Sep 22, 2012 Full Review Philip Martin Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ...l feels like a Hollywood vision of the way the ignorant and unwashed comport themselves. It feels ugly and it made me sad. Rated: 80/100 Dec 21, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

Marilyn S I thought as a girl who grew up never knowing her father, with a young mom, I related. I didn't know I was gonna cry as the movie was pretty funny. Don't know why it got a low rating. Not everybody can relate and have been privileged to know both their parents. Thought it was nicely made. And how it added that just because u have both parents doesn't mean ur going to live in a house full of love. And how heartbreaking it is to know the parent that was never there seeing them with another child that they actually take care of and how different they're moral compass and self esteem will be effected. But yet again some parents are better off not being in our lives if they're like Clark's. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/26/23 Full Review Austin C Dirty Girl is more than just a "road trip" movie. It's about a girl struggling with delinquency which is triggered by her mothers lack of parenting and the yearn for a father. Danielle the main character, meets a lonely Clark, a boy struggling with his sexuality and having to face his unaccepting father. When they hit the road, Danielle and Clark learn a lot about each other and bond over their struggles. Trying to help each other out, they run into to trouble and harsh realities. Maybe I like this movie so much because I can relate to both the main characters, however I can also say the tone and setting make the movie even more worth while. Lastly the soundtrack is one of the best I've heard for a film, with songs like, Shadows on the Night, Deceptacon, Lover Girl, and many others. The makers of this movie did a great job of infusing the soundtrack and the movie which is not easy to do well. I feel like the reason critics are so hard on this movie is because everything has to be attached to a genre, I'm not necessarily saying that the movie is for everyone but I feel like some people ignore the good in the film. Whether it's a dark-comedy, a drama, or "road trip" (if you consider that a genre) isn't the point of the film. This movie movie made me both laugh and cry which isn't something I do easy. I would recommend that you give the film a try and when you watch it try not to take everything so seriously, it's a light hearted great film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/24/20 Full Review Audience Member Don't listen to the critics this movie has an amazing sorry and is overall great.
