Christian W It really missed some opportunities. Nearly no interactions with differently sized people: the same story could've been told without shrinking anyone. Squandered possibilities, following one guy's journey and he wasn't even among the most interesting people. What i got was a disappointing film that never once had the guts to stick to a single idea. Controversy about who gets to downsize and what the process is, skips right over. Messy divorce between two different size people with maybe different legal rights? Timeskip. budding friendship/romance between two people helping each other get by? Timeskip. And lastly it jumps the shark with a ridiculous raising of the stakes that feels out of place. This movie had so much potential but they clearly had no idea how to pick and choose so they just mushed everything together. I see this film as an extract of a man's life in this world where we can downsize... nothing else, except a subtle critique of our society (ecology, social classes) that most of us weren't capable of appreciating. There is a willing, that we can feel in the simple direction, to show a dystopian nevertheless realistic word. To finish with, this film let us think that we should think of the present moment since everything comes to an end (with the ecology thing, and the character of Ngoc Lan Tran). Although there are many major inconsistencies, like omitting the fact normal raindrops would become lethal if you'd be shrunk that much, I quite enjoyed the environmental topic of this film. I also liked the character of the Vietnamese character Ngoc Lan Tran very much, well played by Hong Chau, who's loveable mainly because she's so blunt. I genuinely feel that the time I spent in the movie theater was wasted, and I had Movie pass when I saw this so it didn't even list money on it and it was still a waste.
