Biography

Dr Elly Kent is a visual artist, writer, translator and researcher. She is also the editor of the New Mandala, a digital platform for new scholarly perspectives on Southeast Asia.  Her doctoral research examined the historical precedents for participatory art in Indonesia and its contemporary manifestations. She has worked with national and regional galleries, has extensive experience in managing soft-diplomacy projects with youth and students as well as teaching art and design in tertiary and institutional settings in Australia and Indonesia. Elly was a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Australia-Asia Postgraduate Award and was the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art’s emerging artist award in 2012.
