John Tuttle served with North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

John's birth, military service, marriage, children, and death are well documented through pension records and a family Bible, photocopies of the Bible and transcriptions of the pension applications can be found online at SouthernCampaign.org. He was pensioned at the rate of $25 per annum commencing March 4th, 1831, for 5 months service in the North Carolina militia Infantry and 2 months service as a private in the North Carolina militia dragoons. He is a registered Patriot with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ancestor #131813.

According to his memorial on FindAGrave.com, John Tuttle was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Tuttle, born in Fairfax in the British Colony of Virginia in March 1761. After relocating to North Carolina, he enlisted in the militia and served for three different periods during the American Revolution. He married Anna Marie Barbary Elizabeth Fry on June 16, 1783 in Surry, North Carolina. They settled on a 175 acre farm on Town Fork Creek and started their family.[1]

John died on 30 Sept 1840 and was buried at the Frye-Tuttle-Westmoreland Cemetery in Stokes, North Carolina where also his estate was probated.[2] His sons, William and Henry were executors along with his wife, Barbara.
