The Are You Afraid of the Dark? Miniseries Finds Its New Midnight Society

A new Midnight Society with kid-friendly horror stories to tell is locked down for a forthcoming limited-series adaptation of ‘90s nostalgia hit Are You Afraid of the Dark?. Sam Ashe Arnold (Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.), Miya Cech (Rim of the World), Tamara Smart (The Worst Witch), Jeremy Taylor (It) and Lyliana Ray (Black-ish) will gather ‘round the campfire this October, relaying a tale about a Carnival of Doom and its ringmaster (Rafael Casal of Blindspotting), per Deadline.

This is actually the second revival planned for the Canadian property, which was originally picked up by Nickelodeon in 1991 and ran for six years; a film version was planned to coincide with the limited series’ launch, but has since been pushed back to an undetermined later date.

Director Dean Israelite is practiced in the art of bringing 30-year-old children’s television shows into the modern era, having helmed Power Rangers in 2017. BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) is on screenwriting duties.

We’ll see if the cast and crew tap into the not-too-spooky scares that made the series so special for millennials of a certain age.
