In honor of Officer Grimes, the Fort Worth Police Department's remembrance post highlighted that the officer had bravely been doing his duty when confronted with the sudden, violent act that claimed his life. As the Fort Worth Police Department said, “Officer Grimes approached the driver and told him of his violation and that he would cite him for it.” The community and his comrades mourned the loss of Officer Grimes, remembered for both his service and the circumstances of his untimely demise. 

Fort Worth Police Officer Andrew J. Grimes was fatally shot following a confrontation with a hack driver over a parking violation. The Fort Worth Police Department reported that Officer Grimes, aged 39, was conducting a foot patrol at the Union Depot train station when he noticed the driver illegally parked.

According to the department's social media post, Grimes took action to issue a citation, which led to the driver opening fire. Despite seeking cover and returning fire, Officer Grimes was struck in the abdomen by a single bullet. The fallen officer was pronounced dead before he arrived at the hospital. The incident sent shockwaves throughout the community, honoring the officer with the poignant hashtag #WeWillNeverForget.

Officer Grimes had served with the Fort Worth Police, holding the city's peace - and its ordinance - under his watchful eye. Tragically shot on May 12, 1902, his death marked a somber moment for local law enforcement and the society to whom he had dedicated his career.
