• Reveals the long view from an icon who, with age, has added wisdom to his list of accomplishments
• Messner climbing firsts: the world’s fourteen peaks taller than 8000 meters; Everest solo; Everest without supplemental oxygen

Reinhold Messner: My Life at the Limit is a conversation between Messner and interviewer Thomas Hüetlin, an award-winning German journalist. It reveals a more thoughtful and conversational Messner, covering not only the highlights of Messner’s climbing career, but also his treks across Tibet, the Gobi, and Antarctica; his five-year-stint as a member of the European Parliament; his encounter with and study of the yeti; his thoughts on traditional male/female roles; and much more. Readers learn about Messner’s childhood, his thoughts about eating ice cream with girls (against), politics (mostly liberal), and his technique for killing chickens (sharp scissors).

Messner is known as one of history’s greatest Himalayan mountaineers, a man who pushed back the frontiers of the possible for a whole generation of climbers. While the interest in My Life at the Limit is that it exposes much more of the man than his climbing career, that career is still utterly remarkable――and Mountaineers Books is proud to present this book, which is core to our mission, to audiences across North America.

Looks new! Looks like an engaging read! Can’t wait to read it!

A rare inside view into one of the most fascinating adventurers of our time, who lived to give a mature perspective of his endeavors and the why behind it. He may have ruffled some people's feathers, but he did everything with purpose, dedication, and an inspiring will to push the limits, he also stayed true to himself. An inspiring book indeed.

On the one hand I wish that it would have been an autobiography in the regular sense. Nevertheless, I think the interviewer did a terrific job.
I have followed Mr. Messner's life since my young adulthood, and have been awed by his commitment to living a self-directed life.
The flip-side of the interview was that it definitely showed his vulnerability in living which we all share: his realistic confrontation of suffering, loss and the inevitability of growing older and the limitations time places upon us

He is true to himself, definitely realistic about his own mortality, a courageous, principled man.

My admiration for Mr. Messner is not deminished

Unbelievable story

Very interesting book. Gives you some insight into the man, who is very interesting and very impressive. Even inspirational. His description of events leading to his brother's death was riveting. I am not a climber, only a hiker, but I think anyone who enjoys physical challenges would enjoy this book.

I was not familiar with Reinhold Messner prior to reading the book, but was impressed with his bio, so I thought I would give it a shot. The parts that recounted adventures were good, but I would guess his other writings on those events are likely better reads. I found much of it repetitive. I would recommend this book to someone who is already a great fan of Messner and wants to know what makes him tick - or anyone deeply interested in South Tyrollean politics.

Great insight curated to address Reinhold Messner's lifelong focus of living at the limits, how he did it, how he's evolved. So I enjoyed this not as a biography or climb journal, but as addressing that perspective. Highly recommended.

Quite a lot of info about an amazingly accomplished mountain climber and explorer. His own words clarify and give a great deal of depth to the many rumors and legends about this man. New insight into his latest endeavors of museums. I would like to go there and visit them sometime.

My first book by Reinhold Messner and I will certainly read more. One of the most fascinating characters I've heard about, at the same time achieving unbelivable physical goals in the wilderness and being of a true creative with deep feelings and a philosophical mind. You do not have to agree with him on everything to appreciate this unique human being
