Thomas Newman is one of my favorite composers so i thought i would do this list and try to get ten scores that i love the most in order to make it harder for myself. Really wasn't easy to put one over the other.

- DirectorSam MendesStarsTom HanksTyler HoechlinPaul NewmanA mob enforcer's son in 1930s Illinois witnesses a murder, forcing him and his father to take to the road, and his father down a path of redemption and revenge. The score played a huge factor in me liking this movie as i couldn't believe how emotional invested i was because of what the music does where you can be happy and sad at the same time hearing the music in the background for the movie never mind listening to it on its own. The main theme for this movie i can only describe as genius and the score overall is my favorite Thomas Newman score and one of my favorite scores of all time.
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsTim RobbinsMorgan FreemanBob GuntonOver the course of several years, two convicts form a friendship, seeking consolation and, eventually, redemption through basic compassion. The score i think highlights perfectly the feeling that not only what the characters are going through but what we should be going through with them. Specifically what comes to mind is a part of the movie where we see Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) making his way to prison as well as others and it has a haunting, dark tone to the score like it's the worst thing that could be happening at that point seeing the prison yard him understanding that this is the rest of his life. Called the "Stoic theme". And of course the classic ending that has hope finally pay off for Andy and Red (Morgan Freeman) brought me close to tears as you are happy for them. That part is basically the main theme/end titles track. Basically it is a great score for a great movie.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsKevin SpaceyAnnette BeningThora BirchA sexually frustrated suburban father has a mid-life crisis after becoming infatuated with his daughter's best friend. There isn't a lot of music in this but this just proves saying less can mean so much more than having the sweeping scores that Thomas Newman has done well but this works for the odd suburban world that we see in the movie. You have the scene where Ricky (Wes Bentley) is showing Jane (Thora Birch) a tape of plastic bag being blown by the wind and you hear mostly a simple piano melody and it basically says all it needs to say about the weirdness but also the beauty of the moment and it makes it one of my favorites as an impressive angle to take a score.
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsTom HanksMichael Clarke DuncanDavid MorseA tale set on death row, where gentle giant John Coffey possesses the mysterious power to heal people's ailments. When the lead guard, Paul Edgecombe, recognizes John's gift, he tries to help stave off the condemned man's execution. The score is just so moving, going with a lot of the moments that are not the easiest scenes to watch but the score takes you through the heartache and at the end it wraps up the feeling of wonder and magic that the film has without going overboard like it is still within a not so bright reality. A Moment of heartache is especially in the track "Coffey On The Mile".
- DirectorMartin BrestStarsBrad PittAnthony HopkinsClaire ForlaniDeath, who takes the form of a young man killed in an accident, asks a media mogul to act as his guide to teach him about life on Earth and, in the process, he falls in love with the mogul's daughter.i think what boosts this movie for me is the score being the best thing about it. It has the magical sweeping score moments as well as the intimate moments with the piano, making the romance and fantasy of everything more compelling. A track called "Whisper of a Thrill" has to be one of the most beautiful tracks I have ever heard i would check that out if you haven't.
- DirectorAndrew StantonLee UnkrichStarsAlbert BrooksEllen DeGeneresAlexander GouldAfter his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home. The score had left me torn apart emotionally as i couldn't believe it was making me feel sorry for animated fish similar to how i felt about the Lion King but Finding Nemo hit on a very low key level where again the simplicity of certain moments with the piano just hit hard to what was happening so it immediately became one of my favorite Thomas Newman scores.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsLeonardo DiCaprioKate WinsletChristopher FitzgeraldA young couple living in a Connecticut suburb during the mid-1950s struggle to come to terms with their personal problems while trying to raise their two children. The score perfectly matches and boosts a great movie in showing the confusion and sadness that the couple played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are going through but it is done in such a rhythmic and interesting way that i end up enjoying it at the same time. So when it comes up i can't help but admire how great and complicated it is.
- StarsAl PacinoMeryl StreepEmma ThompsonSeveral disparate but connected individuals go through the AIDS crisis in the mid-1980s.After i watched Band of Brothers i started paying attention to scores in TV series as i really loved that score and it is the same for the score in Angels in America with what i think is pure genius. Setting the tone every episode for big expectations for what is to come from the main title which automatically brings me in to looking forward to what happens. Also a great track that again a theme for Newman insights hope is "The Great Work Begins".
- DirectorAndrew StantonStarsBen BurttElissa KnightJeff GarlinIn the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind. The sense of intrigue and curiosity that seems to be part of a theme for WALL.E is perfectly done i think from the bouncy theme it has on earth but also the wonder in space as we see him with EVE. The perfect track i think is called "Define Dancing"
- DirectorBrad SilberlingStarsJim CarreyJude LawMeryl StreepWhen a massive fire kills their parents, three children are delivered to the custody of cousin and stage actor Count Olaf, who is secretly plotting to steal their parents' vast fortune.I liked its use of just a lot of instruments in percussion, in strings and electronic instruments that are a clever spin on bringing all these different sounds together that when listening to the track "Drive Away" i was surprised in how many sounds were being used in i think the best way possible it had to go on my Top 10 Thomas Newman scores.
