I had never seen Sunset Across The Bay. If truth be told I had never heard of it before. Worth downloading if you’ve never seen it

The 2006 film The History Boys was on BBC4 last Thursday, and is now on iPlayer for a year.

This was was my first watch of the film, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

It was very good,an unrecognisable Bob Peck as the couple’s son and a brief appearance by Paul Shane of Hi-de-Hi! fame.

Also brief appearance by Liz Dawn ( pre Vera Duckworth).
I’d never seen this programme before, beautifully written as always by Alan Bennett.
I really miss these slice of life dramas these days. Entirely script lead, rather than plot heavy.

Alot of people thought of Liz just as Vera Duckworth in Corrie

They had no idea she had a great acting career prior to that

A sign of the quality of the cast back then

'Kisses at Fifty' another great she appeared in

I've recorded the one's I'd like to see again and will watch with a cup of tea and a biscuit.

I love Alan, I've got a few of his books and re-read quite often. He's so observational, especially about day to day life for all sorts of people, and a great writer.

A Cream Cracker under The settee with Thora Hird is for me one of the best examples of someone just talking to the camera ever. She was just wonderful in this and the writing was wonderful too. I get a lump in my throat every time I watch this. Julie Wlters was very good too.

There's always lines in anything by Alan Bennett that have me chortling.
I can't remember it exactly but when a girl with a short skirt walks past on the seafront Mam says something like "It's no wonder the mills are closing'.

I'm a bit annoyed that BBC haven't put Sunset Across The Bay in their iPlayer Play For Today section.
I put PFT in my watchlist specifically to pick up this sort of thing.
Kisses at Fifty is in there, I keep meaning to watch it.

    Agree
Something so simple. No special F/x or hunk in trunks

You were literally sat next to Thora in this play
You could almost touch her & pick her up off the floor

    Such was the quality

Its so sad to think TV was once of such fantastic quality, compared to the £1 shop stuff we have today

I’m literally watching it on IPlayer as I write?

Yes, I've just checked that out as I'm going to watch it in the next week or so.

It's not in the Play for Today section, in fact there's only two in there now, but is is there as a stand alone.

Says it is available for 11 months.

Thanks for recommending Sunset across the Bay on this thread.
Would never have found it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good fun recognising the Corrie cast members amongst others.

I was hoping they'd add to the PFT section so I could check every week or so for anything I'd missed in the schedules.
They're not always easy to spot if they're listed by their titles and PFT isn't in the title.
