Flowers in May?

Hi all,

I’m planning a trip with my parents to Tokyo. My mom wants to go during cherry blossom season. My dad prefers to go when the weather is warmer and I don’t like it hot so we’ve decided on mid May which shouldn’t be too hot or too cold. Now we just need to convince my mom. I know cherry blossoms will be long gone by then, but will there be other colorful flowers or blooms that would win my mom over?

Azaleas, shibazaura (moss phlox), roses, dogwood. May is flower season.

Irises are usually in June, but it might be warm this year.

You might be able to find cherry blossoms in Hokkaido in May.

May is beautiful for flowers. Depending on how the season goes you may also get the first hydrangeas blooming too.

Thank you!

We’ve successfully convinced my mom to go in May, and we’ll be there May 20. Now I’m hoping the weather won’t be too hot and humid for me. Looks like some days can go up to 28-30 Celsius.

When it is hot, just go indoor stores or cafe.

May 20 will be too late for wisterias and azaleas but Hydranegeas might start to bloom.

Early May for wisteria, have seen some early irises today and hydrangea will be later in May as well. Lots of locations with good flowers, and have the "pink moss" scheduled for mid-month.

If your party likes roses consider the Kyu-Furukawa Gardens Spring Rose Festival in late May.
