There were so many people and things in order to look at as well. I loved it. If you are in the area you must take photos too. Recommended. One tip make sure to come by train. The theatre in question is decent in addition. We saw the wizard of oz. If you are going to the theatre make sure to book a seat that is of good quality. Also bring plenty of snacks to eat.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 1 July 2023

- reviews4u105 contributionsOxford Street ReviewI visit London alot and I always have to go here whenever I go to London. It’s got shops for everyone, from self ridges to Primark from Primark to adidas. It can get quite busy at times, so keep that in mind when going, but its a good find, and dose nit take to long on the tube to get there. It’s literally shopping heaven for someone who loves shopping, you could definitely spend a lot of money there as well! Definitely worth a visit if you going to London at some point!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 August 2023
- James HArnold, Maryland961 contributionsFrom the Sublime to the RidiculousAlways worth an afternoon. From semi-tatty tourist souvenir shops to the elegant Selfridges you will easily spend several hours walking this great shopping street. It also hosts many places to eat. Easy access from several tube lines and always a people watchers paradise.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 October 2023

Oxford Street after sunset is loud, crowded. Boom boxes blaring music bike taxis, religious evangelicals blaring call to prayer, come learn about Jesus tables, etc. Hop off Oxford to Carnaby St for better sights and shopping.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 March 2024
- LivelaneSurrey, United Kingdom160 contributionsA shadow of its former selfThe once great Oxford Street, what on earth is going wrong? At one time this was the go to street for shopping, great department stores and well known brands. Only a few are left. A shadow of its former self, it is now lined with cheap souvenir shops, gaudy expensive sweet shops, vape shops, market style stalls and boarded up premises. The prices charged for food are horrendous. Crowded, dirty and a magnet for pickpockets and beggars, I now fail to see what the attraction is to anyone! The council needs a very close look at the situation before it is too late. Give it a try, but be prepared to be disappointed. There are far better, less crowded and brighter areas of London to shop in.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 March 2024

Not worth the hype, it does have no charm and feels cheap with lots of souvenirshops. You better visit Soho right next to it which features iconic streets

What a complete tacky dump.
Years ago it was a place you should visit.
Now it's a place to avoid
1/2 of what I want to say, I can't, but Oxford Street is NOT what it used to be!
You can shop in nicer surroundings at your local retail park.

Absolute rip off. I went to buy a postcard and a 1st class stamp. £5 for a 1st class stamp that cost £1.35! This is appalling and daylight robbery. £2 for a postcard. When I refused to pay such an exorbitant price, the man in the shop became verbally aggressive. Will not be going back any time soon. The shop is on the corner of Oxford St and Gilbert St, opposite the Barnour shop.

This is one of the major streets in the City of Westminster in the West End London, the busiest shopping area with hundreds of retail shops, branded and quality products. As we went during peak Christmas season, the area was bursting with crowds and dazzling decorations all around.

Over Christmas, this place is nuts. While otherwise, you could have fun hopping from store to store and window- or actually shopping, during the holiday season, this place turns into a human zoo, with sensory system overload at each step of the way. At times, it also feels plain unsafe, with people driving like crazy, and walking like equally crazy. While it is on the list of those "adorned to the nines" streets, I would say, there is more of that lights-watching in a less crazy atmosphere that you can get in Regent str. (still busy), Bond str. (adorable), St. Martins str. (equally adorable and artistic), and in smaller side streets. Even walking around Carnaby feels a bit less chaotic while still very "instagrammable".

Hi, we are staying in London for 6 days in September. we want to be near to the main attractions, public transport and hips of shopping. which could be our best option to stay? We would like a nice, safe decent hotel without breaking our wallet. Any suggestion?

There are the big chains - Travel Lodge, Premier Inn - not stayed with them in London, but have not stayed in a duff Premier Inn.
Worked in London for seven years staying two nights a week. All bar two weeks were spent at the Point A hotel, Westminster (which is actually in Waterloo) - one of a number in the city, Small rooms but really good staff, comfy beds and power showers. Westminster doesn't do breakfast (vouchers for the Costa Coffee next door.) They've now got ones next to most of the main termini.
Couple of other thoughts....
- As with airports I'd check on a map where the hotel is, sometimes the name can be a bit misleading. Not a massive issue in London given public transport etc. but can be a fuss to be in Waterloo when you thought you were going to be in Westminster!
- Note you are coming from Oz - do you have something link 'Secret Escapes' specialist website which does offers. Free to join and some good deals on here for London.
-- Depending on budget and what you want... you could try one of the Universities. Early September students wont be back so places like the LSE, Kings College etc. let out rooms. Some of these are good. Though most will be self catering.
- London is easy to get around - so you could aim for somewhere a little different. I'd suggest Greenwich (pretty 'village' on the river - Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, good food and pubs. Novotel is just off the station and a 15 min ride into London. Think it is zone 3.
- South of the river is usually cheaper than North...but don't go to far South as transport can be an issue

How do you get to Oxford Street ? If your using the Hop on Hop off bus in London ?
Neil S
Bishop Middleham, UK298 contributions
Hi - two options - there are at least half a dozen tourist 'hop on, hop off' buses (Golden Tours, Big Bus Tours, Hop on Hop off Bus) all will have routes along Oxford Street - best to Google.
Alternatively, if you want to use a public bus (you will need an Oyster card, but it is a flat fee per journey) Transport for London has an excellent website with a journey planner which will take you door to street. (Try TFL)

I am staying near Oxford street, are there any supermarkets here where I can buy daily food items. I don’t want to go out a lot and want to cook at home. Any options ?

Oxford Street is a very long Road. There is a Sainsbury's supermarket near Tottenham Court Road heading east and a Sainsbury's supermarket heading west at the Marble Arch end in Edgware Road. Edgware Road is renowned for having a lot of small stores selling food to cater for everybody including halal and vegetarian foods at 24hr supermarkets. Hope that helps.

It is a lovely walk to Buckingham Palace and very easy to hop on the tube too and connect with any of the sights. You should both be able to get what you want out of your day trip!

As lojas funcionam no dia 1 de janeiro? Do the stores open on January 1st?

Hola! Queremos recorrer Oxford Street.
