Diese Dokumentation schaut mit einem zynischen und schonungslosen Blick auf industriellen Entwicklung der letzten 200 Jahren, damit einhergehenden zerstörerischen Auswirkung auf unseren Planeten und auf deren Lebewesen, die darauf leben, sowie dessen düsteren Zukunftsaussichten.
Es zeigt wie wenige einflussreiche Menschen durch Macht- und vor allen Dingen Profitgier unser aller denken und Lebensgewohnheiten beeinflusst bzw. gesteuert haben und es immer noch tun.
Das Ergebnis wird sein das 20% der reichsten und 20% aller Menschen dafür verantwortlich sind, dass sich unser Leben schon in dem nächsten 30 Jahre dramatisch verändert wird. This french ARTE documentary about history of industrialization should belong to general education and should be shown in every class.
What makes "Breakpoint" stand out is the embeddening of industrialization in the political and societal context and the very exquisite cutting of the several historical and new material.
A lot of the information given I knew allready but I enjoyed the watch because it´s being presented entertaining.
What I didn´t know: In the 1950s solar energy was widespread in Floridas private households, but the coal and oil industry made good advertising for high power consumption in private households with the result that solar energy sank into meaninglessness.
Especially the believers in progress should watch "Breakpoint: A Counter History of Progress".
Clearly it illustrates mainly the destructive pole of industrialization and accordingly pessimistic is the message.
The French really make great documentaries! Most I have watched are at least good.

Auf alarmierende Art(e) zeigt uns diese Doku, dass wir Menschen naiv und gierig sind und welche Auswirkungen unser Wachstumsglaube auf unsere Lebensgrundlage, den Planeten Erde, seit der industriellen Revolution bis heute hatte.
Immer wieder beeindruckend und deprimierend zu sehen, wie schlecht wir darin sind, verantwortungsvoll und mit Weitblick zu handeln.
Dass Fortschritt nicht durch Konkurrenz und Krieg in vernünftige Bahnen gelenkt wird, sollte spätestens nach dem Konsum dieser Dokumentation allen klar sein. Trotzdem erleben wir das Erstarken von nationalistischen Tendenzen selbst in Zeiten einer globalen Pandemie. Wir haben es offenkundig immer noch nicht gerafft.
