This is me two days after I moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Brooklyn in 1980 — when I had no idea about the internet. But in this age of the internet, I am constantly asked questions about my life based on my wildly inaccurate Wikipedia page. So I put this website into the world for anyone searching for info directly from me. If you want to read my big fancy biography, it's below.

— About

Four-time Academy Award®- and Tony® Award- nominated actor, writer, and director Ethan Hawke recently celebrated career-best notices both onscreen in Paul Schrader’s “First Reformed,” for which he received this year’s Independent Spirit Award for Best Actor, among countless accolades; and onstage in the highly-acclaimed 2019 Broadway revival of Sam Shepard’s True West, for which he has received a Drama League Award nomination for 'Distinguished Performance.'

Hawke's prolific filmography includes his Oscar®-nominated performances in “Boyhood” and “Training Day” plus “Dead Poets Society,” “Reality Bites,” “Gattaca,” “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” “Born to Be Blue,” “Maudie,” and Richard Linklater’s trilogy — "Before Sunrise,” “Before Sunset” and “Before Midnight” — for which he received two Oscar® nominations as co-screenwriter.  As a filmmaker, Hawke made his directorial debut in 2001 with his drama "Chelsea Walls" followed by his documentary directorial debut in 2014 with “Seymour: An Introduction.” He most recently directed the music biopic, “Blaze,” released by IFC Films in 2018. The film, based on the memoir Living in the Woods in a Tree by Foley’s life-long love Sybil Rosen, who also served as co-writer with Hawke, was produced by Hawke and his wife Ryan for their Under The Influence banner. He also starred alongside Rose Byrne and Chris O’Dowd in the Judd Apatow produced romantic comedy “Juliet, Naked,” which was directed by Jesse Peretz and released by Lionsgate in  August 2018.

Upcoming, Hawke will be seen in Cannes Palme d’or winner Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “The Truth” alongside Juliette Binoche and Catherine Deneuve, which IFC Films is expected to release in 2019, and in Showtime’s limited series “Good Lord Bird” based on the James McBride novel of the same name, which Hawke will also co-write and executive produce.
