Marvel star Hayley Atwell shares her idea for Agent Carter season 3. Atwell has become one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most versatile actors, appearing as Peggy Carter in a variety of projects since she made her debut in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. Peggy has become a more prominent figure in the last year or so, thanks to the MCU introducing a different version of the character known as Captain Carter. Atwell voiced Cap in the first episode of the animated series What If...? and went on to play her in live-action, albeit briefly, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Still, when many think of Peggy, they think of ABC's short-lived series Agent Carter, which ended in 2016. Despite low viewership, the series was critically acclaimed throughout its run and followed Peggy's work in the SSR after the events of Captain America. Though the series finale wound up being a fairly satisfying ending for the show, many viewers feel there's more story to tell, especially since Agent Carter ran for only 18 episodes.

Atwell recently appeared at Awesome Con 2022. YouTube channel Fandom Spotlite uploaded footage of the panel, where Atwell was asked about her "dream premise" for a potential Agent Carter season 3, provided the show treats Peggy and Steve's reunion in Avengers: Endgame as canon. Read Atwell's comment below:

Assuming Endgame is canon? Ok, well, in my mind, Steve's tired, and he wants to sit down, and he's had quite a lot of time to gather a fantastic book of recipes because he's a fantastic cook. Peggy's busy, she's not been waiting for him. She's been busy, and she's got things to do. And the great thing is, Cap's cool with that because he's a feminist. He's not insecure about that. He lets her go off and live her best life and fulfill her truest potential because he knows the contribution that she's got to make in the world, and that makes him even more attractive to her. That's my premise.

Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers stand in a tent in Captain America

Though Atwell is likely joking about Steve collecting a book of recipes, her analysis of the character's behavior in a hypothetical Agent Carter season 3 is spot on. It does seem likely Steve would seek a quiet life following his time as an Avenger, which he alludes to when he returns as an older version of himself in Avengers: Endgame. However, Steve went back to Peggy when her career as a hero was really just starting out, and Agent Carter seasons 1 and 2 showed how important protecting others is to her. Still, as Atwell says, Steve would only be excited about that for her and content to sit on the sidelines.

With rumors of a live-action Captain Carter show starring AtwellAgent Carter season 3 isn't very likely at this point, with Marvel looking to focus on the new version of the character instead. Plus, there's some confusion about whether Steve changed the original timeline or created a new one when he went back to Peggy, making another season of Agent Carter a little tricky to figure out narratively. If Marvel were to follow Steve and Peggy's life after Endgame, it seems more likely it would be explored in a movie or standalone series rather than in Agent Carter season 3.
