Kakao Entertainment (카카오엔터테인먼트) is a South Korean entertainment company. It was originally founded as Podotree (포도트리는) in 2010 as a content business company that operates Daum Webtoon and Kakao Page.[2]

On January 25, 2021, it was announced that Kakao M would be merging into Kakao Page to form Kakao Entertainment.[3] The merger was finalized on March 2, 2021 with Kakao Page as the surviving company and Kakao M as the defunct company.[1] The company adopts a "company in company" structure where the two entities carries their business activities independently as "M Company" and "Page Company". Kakao Page's Lee Jin-soo and Kakao M's Kim Sung-soo serves as co-CEOs in the company with Lee overseeing the story IPs and platform businesses and Kim overseeing digital, music, and video contents.[4]

2022–2023: GIRL'S RE:VERSE[]

On August 19, 2022, Kakao Entertainment announced that they are currently planning a virtual idol survival program, VIP 30, where 30 K-pop girl group members will compete to debut as a virtual idol girl group and earn the opportunity to release new music. The contestants' identity will be kept hidden and will range from popular idol group members, former idols, and idols looking for a second chance.[5] On October 6, the program was revealed to have chaged its name to GIRL'S RE:VERSE. It premiered on January 2, 2023.[6] On March 6, the final line-up of the virtual girl group FE:VERSE was revealed.[7]
