What to do in Central London

Bankside
One of the best spots to take in the city’s iconic skyline is the south bank of the Thames. Swoon at St. Paul’s, marvel at the Tate Modern chimney, gasp at Shakespeare’s Globe and schedule your arrival at Borough Market in time for lunch. 

The Shard 
One of London’s newest skyscrapers, the Shard has an iconic design that stretches into the skyline. The Shard is right next to London Bridge, and you can book tickets to the top to see the View from the Shard experience.

The London Eye
Famously built to ring in the new millennium, it’s harder to think of a better view of the capital than from the top of the 135m high London Eye. A great spot for a romantic trip or a family day out.

St Paul’s Cathedral
An architectural marvel and one of the most iconic buildings in the city, St Paul’s is right next to the South Bank and the London Stock Exchange. St Paul’s Cathedral is also the resting place of historic figures like Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington.

Westminster

What is the best area to stay in London?
You really can’t go wrong wherever you stay in Central London – there’s something amazing and fun to see around every corner. Because it’s so well connected, we recommend our Premier Inn London St Pancras hotel, just a five-minute walk from King’s Cross and St Pancras station. From those stations you can easily get across the whole city and even catch trains to other places in the UK and Europe.

Other great hotels to get the most out of London are our Premier Inn London Leicester Square, County Hall, Holborn, Southwark High Street and London Bank (Tower) hotels.

Where is the most central place to stay in London?
Our hub by Premier Inn London Covent Garden hotel is probably our most central hotel in London, just a five-minute walk from Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery and right next to a huge number of shops in Covent Garden itself.

hub is ideal for solo travellers or couples, if you’re travelling as a family or a bigger group try our Premier Inn London Leicester Square hotel instead. Our London Leicester Square hotel has brilliant family rooms, and it’s almost as close to the centre of Central London as our hub hotel.

Which areas are Central London?
Central London’s official boundaries are set according to the Royal Commission and include parliament, the royal palaces, the government and the courts. Since 2011 Central London consists of seven boroughs: Camden, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Southwark, Westminster and the City of London. Generally, most people consider about a three-to-five-mile radius around Charing Cross and Trafalgar Square to be ‘Central London’.

What is free to do in Central London?
Most of Central London’s biggest museums are completely free to enter. The British Museum, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum have world-class exhibits and are all completely free to enter. 

What is the most central part of London?
The most central part of London is Trafalgar Square, a bustling part of the city that often hosts festivals and markets. Overlooked by the National Portrait Gallery and statues of famous historical figures, Trafalgar Square is also close to Charing Cross station.

Are there hotels in London with free parking?
Most of our Central London hotels have chargeable parking either next to the hotel or close by. Our Premier Inn London Southwark high street hotel has a very limited number of chargeable on-site parking spots. Unfortunately, there’s no free parking at any of our other Central London hotels, but chargeable off-site parking is available at NCP London Bridge.

Where to stay in London for the first time?
Our Premier Inn London Holborn hotel is great if you’re staying in London for the first time. Holborn really showcases the best of London, with busy shops, restaurants and high streets full of things to see. From Holborn, you’re only a short walk from the West End, the British Museum and the South Bank, you’re also right next to the Central Line on the Tube.

Where to stay in London for three days?
For a longer stay in Central London, we recommend our Premier Inn London Southwark (Bankside) hotel. Just a short walk from some of the best things to see in London like the London Eye, the Tate Modern and St Paul’s Cathedral, with all the lively atmosphere of the South Bank and great views of the Thames next door. Being in the centre of the city means it’s easy to explore too, you won’t need to travel too long to see everything else in Central London and really make the most of those three days in London.
