Tom Cruise in this film is a over-worked sports manager who has lost sight of what is important... after one of the players he is representing winds up the hospital the players kid asks him"Don't you think you should ask him to stop it's his forth concution." Jerry quickly blows off the kid by saying "no one can stop your dad" and gets back to talking on his cell-phone. The kid then, gives him the finger and walks off. This a life changing event for Jerry for he realizes he has turned into someone he no longer wants to be. He then writes "The Things We Were Afraid To Say Aloud" memo to his co-workers about how they should be representing there players. Jerry then gets sacked from his job and loses all of his players except the loyal Cuba Gooding Jr.- Rod Tillwell who stays with him through and through. Jerry then leaves his job with Renee Zwelleger a single-mom, who was inspired by Jerry's memo. They form there own branch of representation and secretly Renee gets attracted to Jerry especially since Jerry loves her son so much. Only problem Jerry can't commit despite the fact he married(just so he could be dad to her son). I won't give away the ending, but this is what a romantic comedy should be not over the top and funny.
Finally a romantic comedy that really is a comedy-
One of my favorite lines is "After two bottles of wine and a bad pizza I suddely grew a conscience."
Or the hilliarous "Show me the money!" scene
Or Jerry's major blow-up as he leaves the office. Those scenes still make me laugh each time I watch them.
The actors are what made this movie deserve high stars. Cuba got a well-deserved Oscar for his hilliarous yet thoughtful character. And Tom Cruise as most times is fabulous as Jerry McGuire he really made this whole movie.I find myself falling in love with him each time I see this movie... and in this one girls you see that wonderful cocky sweetness he brings to the screen. And the little boy in this is nothing short of precious.

Here, super-agent Jerry is fired from the company he helped found for publishing a mission statement that stresses providing more personal attention to a smaller roster of star athletes. Dorothy Boyd is struck by the beauty of Jerry's message. She quits her accconting job at the same firm and together Jerry and she set out to conquer the sports agency world, starting with a single client, little-used wide receiver Rod Tidwell. The undersized Rod has a head almost too big for his helmet. He wants the Arizona Cardinals to pay him several million more than the team's owner thinks he's worth.
Jerry likes the widowed Dorothy a great deal and he totally loves her precocious six-year-old son, Ray. When Dorothy plans a move to San Diego, the matrimony-phobic Jerry asks her to marry him. It soon becomes obvious that as a husband he's a great sports agent. Jerry must simultaneously deal with a rapidly deteriorating marriage, his inability to sign new clients and Rod's demands for a long term contract from the Cards.
Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 imdb viewer poll ratings.
(7.2) Jerry Maguire (1996) - Tom Cruise/Cuba Gooding Jr./Renée Zellweger/Kelly Preston/Jay Mohr/Bonnie Hunt/Jonathan Lipnicki/Glenn Frey/Donal Logue/Beau Bridges (cameos: Al Michaels/Dan Dierdorf/Frank Gifford/Drew Bledsoe/Katarina Witt/Mel Kiper/Drew Rosenhaus/Art Monk/Richie Kotite/Troy Aikman/Warren Moon/Kerry Collins/Dallas Malloy)
There's Rod, the temperamental football player/Jerry's client, who loves Jerry enough to stick with him when his company dumps in. There's Dorothy's little boy, Ray, with his big round glasses, easily the best child performance of the decade. (Was Jonathan nominated for an Oscar... if not he got cheated.)
My favorite scene in this two hours of greatness, is in the airport near the beginning, where Ray and Dorothy bump into each other. He knows her only slightly from work, but she's admired him from afar. What a scene. Jerry's mind is somewhere else (on his next business meeting, as always), but we see something change in Jerry's eyes. Not romantic interest, exactly, but something else... It's like Dorothy, in her open charm and admiration for him, open a door in Jerry's soul....just a crack, mind you, but sometimes that's all it takes.....
Cruise (and Cameron Crowe) know how to build the suspense . and they know that relationships take time. Take a couple hours of your time....it's Magic.

Produit très rare à trouver en dvd classique ( non Blu-ray et en raison de la date de sortie)
Jerry McGuire is the guy who has it all - the big career as a hot shot sports agent, the admiration of many, the dazzling smile, the trophy fiance. But when he acts from the heart in a moment of inspired madness, all of his glittering prizes fall away. He quickly discovers there is no loyalty in either his professional or personal life, but by the end of the movie he triumphs and finds love and loyalty once more, this time the genuine kind.
My favourite scenes are those immediately after Jerry has been fired without warning by a backstabbing boss at his sports agency. He races back to the office, falling flat on his face in front of gossiping colleagues aware of his demise, then shows his mettle in a series of increasingly desperate phone calls to clients, trying to persuade them to leave the agency and come with him.
When he finally emerges, sweaty and battle scarred into the silent, open plan office, he holds his head high under the scrutiny of the entire workforce. He invites staff to join him in starting a new company, based on good ethics, and he starts by decanting the office goldfish into a plastic bag, announcing 'These goldfish have manners - they're coming with me'.
Jerry's strength and dignity after his humiliating and public sacking, is to my mind the most moving scene in the movie - and there are many! This will strike a chord with anyone who has experienced the rough end of office politics. His fightback is tough and compelling to watch.
The romantic sub plot is moving and believeable, with Renee Zellweger perfect as the sweet single parent who falls head over heels for Jerry. The ups and downs of their relationship flesh out the major themes of the movie.
Writer/Director Cameron Crowe could have happily retired after this movie, knowing his work was done. 'Jerry McGuire' is that rare thing, a modern classic and a movie many others would have loved to have made. Cuba Gooding Jnr as Jerry's prime client is superb and he richly deserved his Academy Award. But it is baffling that Tom Cruise didn't also pick up an Oscar for his astonishing performance. A movie that should be in everyone's collection.
