Thomas M. Pryor New York Times Before this potpourri of occult mumbo-jumbo runs its tedious and fantastic course no less than eight normally healthy looking actors wind up as corpses. Valerii Ege D Universal's yet another detective-style thriller horror movie. Not every Universal Horror movie has a twist. This one does. And it's, pretty interesting for its time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/13/23 Full Review CodyZamboni Movie is not very thrilling, with a dumb explanation for the weird goings on. Lots of scenes are so poorly lit, it's too dark to see, A few big stars in supporting roles , rest of the cast are annoying. Movie's idea of horror is having a guy lumber around in the dark. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Michael C "Night Monster" deserves to be seen simply because it stars the late Bela Lugosi and the late Lionel Atwill. They have consistently delivered great performances in all of the Universal horror movies they appeared in. It is a shame Bela became a victim of typecasting because he has shown consistently in his various film appearances that he was a very good actor and not deserving of such a fate for lack of a better term. As goofy as the premise of "Night Monster" is, I found myself actually enjoying the movie mainly because of the cast who were all very impressive in their respective roles. The late Irene Harvey and the late Don Porter are especially good and actually have very good chemistry. The late Nils Asther is not too bad either as the mysterious Agar Singh, a mystic who posses a strange psychic ability. The late Ralph Morgan (Brother of the late Frank Morgan who we all know as The Wizard of Oz.) is also very good as Curt Ingston. A reclusive curmudgeon who may have an agenda for his house guests. I was going to give the movie two and-a-half stars, but on the strength of the very good cast I upped my rating to three. With all of that being said, "Night Monster" is actually good entertainment that is worth seeing at least once. I would recommend you do so. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Itâ??s hard to understand why Beebeâ??a specialist in serials and cowboy moviesâ??was chosen to not only direct, but to produce the film. Yet, it would be hard to fault what he accomplishes. Indeed, the results supposedly pleased no less a figure than Alfred Hitchcock, who screened the film to assess the performance of Janet Shaw, who he was considering for Shadow of a Doubt (1943). The story has it that Hitch completely enjoyed the film and was amazed by its 13-day shooting schedule. In any case, he did cast Shaw in his film. The film is delightfully over-the-top. Itâ??s only a minute old when we find Fay Helm raving that the whole house â??reeksâ?? of bloodâ??â??The air is charged with death and hatred and something thatâ??s unclean!â?? Well, itâ??s that kind of movie, and anyway, sheâ??s not wrongâ??sheâ??s just in blood-and-thunder mode and that suits the film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Fun oldie but goodie whodunnit with supernatural elements. Bela doesn't get to do much, though he got top billing in this ensemble piece. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Creepy goings on at Ingston Manor!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
