But now there is renovation work on the square.I wanted to visit Poznan because of the photos of Old Market Square I looked at for about 5 years. I love the beautiful buildings, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the old town great if you dont want to walk far all open late. Highlights, Town Hall and its mechanical bill goats, Architecture design of the buildings really make the square stand out, Colourful Budnicy House, Monuments, Museums, Fountains. The square also offers many cafes, bars, restaurants, boutique shops, and many photo opportunities. Was there in October 2023 when they were still doing the construction work on the square which was disappointing for me. If you look at Poznan Old Market Square live cam today, you will see they have completed all the work on the square in 2024. Poznan is a beautiful city to visit and looking forward to returning to get the photo l miss out on.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten March 24, 2024

Storybook charm! This large, walkable area is a unique and beautiful sightseeing destination in the middle of the city. Very close to the Croissant Museum and many popular restaurants. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Visited here because my wife's grandmother came from here. Were expecting something bleak and post-Communist. This was anything but !Felt Scandinavian to me. Maybe some of those Hanseatic traders brought some paint down this way. Very colorful, quaint, photogenic - not a ton of tourist stuff, but plenty of real Polish food. Plus it's an easy train ride from Berlin. Definitely worth a visit.

While Poland has done a lot in the past years to boost its appeal to tourist and promote cities like Warsawa and Krakow, are there still quite a few gems to discover and Posen defintely being one of them. We stopped in Posen for the night en route to Berlin (2,5h away) and were very much surprised by the how well the old town has been preserved and how inviting and picturesque it is. Plenty of nice cafes, gastro bars and restaurants are surrounded by colorful buildings of the 18th and 19th century. While I am surprised that people don't talk about Posen yet, am I absolutely sure that this will change in the near future.

I believe it will ber the end of 2023 before this area will be mostly finished and sadly its hard work getting around the area with JCB Bulldozers and manpower digging. It does mean NO TRAMS go anywhere near the centre but It is still worth a visit. Also the Nearby Opera house is being internally renovated, similair timescale. Dont let this put you off just expect a bit of walking and use good footwear. Their is stuill plenty of areas around the town worth a visit.

The design and set up of the old town in its classic form is a beautiful expression of an old European city. Walking the streets at night it is like you are transformed in time. It is modern enough to be tourist friendly but authentic enough to be a real true experience.

The old market square is lovely if you avoid looking down and only look up as it is still a building site. At least the terraces around the bars/restaurants around the square are completed so you can sit in comfort watching the building site. It will be stunning when it is completed but must be damaging the business' around the square.

Like many old squares in Poland, Poznan's is surrounded by beautiful old buildings, of many shapes and sizes, with a lovely old Town Hall at it's heart. Although it is undergoing major construction work, the bars and restaurants are still open and many were doing good business. It can be a little tricky, walking round but it is worth the effort, just to get a feel for this place. Poznan is a beautiful and I would love to come back, once the building work is completed, to see it, in all it's glory.

I love Poznan and this is the heart of the city. It is cozy and a perfect ambient. I was here in August 2022 and now I came back in March 2023 and it is still under construction and it is even worse. Let’s hope they finish construction soon.

The coloured merchants' houses on all four sides are already stunning. Then add the majestic Town Hall and two rows of gorgeous buildings in the middle part.
Of course merchants no longer live in the merchants' houses - the square is teeming with restaurants & bars.
Watch out that the reconstruction work in the Old Town is still going on (August 2022) and the constant traipsing through improvised gravelly walkways takes the shine off a tiny bit.

The square at Poznan is like a smaller version of Kraków or Wroclaw. It's a really beautiful place BUT the square is currently being renovated so it takes the shine off the experience. It's still OK but the workers, wagons and diggers are very noisy and there's now only a small walkway around the square. To put it into context some restaurants have gone from having 40 tables outside to just 5. And as per a previous review It's going to take at least another year or two to finish. Don't let this put you off though because it's a fantastic place with many more great places to have a beer and watch the world go by. We will definitely be back!

I will be coming to Poznan at around mid April and would love to know whats the best places to visit. It will be a relaxing holiday. Are the clubs with an entrance fee and is there any street food matkets

I find a tourist guidebook is a good starting place in identifying attractions. Poznan will also have a website for tourism with attractions listed. When you have a list of attraction names you are interested in, you can search for reviews of them on Tripadvisor to see comments and ratings.
The old town square is usually a good starting place for sightseeing in Poland. There will be multistoried residences with shops on the street level surrounding the square. There will be a choice of patio cafes, perhaps a church to enter and a town hall to photograph. No doubt there will be a fountain and a statue or 2 and if you are lucky some artifact from medieval times in the town square related to public punishment. Market vendors will be nearby, too. Poznan Cathedral is worth a visit. Perhaps see if there is a city tour that gives you an overview of the city's sights. We were on a coach tour - not independent tourists so we had to make no decisions about attractions. Usually museums and art galleries, gardens or zoos are not on the itinerary.

That is really impossible to answer, as it depends so much on personal taste, where you stay, how much and what you eat and drink... ! Perhaps a comparative answer would help? In which case... a lot less than Germany or Austria!!!

Always less than $5US. All the food and beverages there are very reasonable priced. Actually very cheap for what you are getting. Great meal and a couple beers at most places is less than $20US.

Dovresti salire più in su ed arrivare al Castello, da lì sicuramente puoi godere di un'ottima panoramica. Quando sei in zona, fermati anche sul ponte prima della piazza centrale vecchia nella zona pedonale, anche da lì puoi godere di una gran bella vista aperta anche sul fiume e sullo stadio del Varsavia (lo vedrai a distanza). Spero di esserti stato d'aiuto!

Poland. We spent one day at the Old Market Square but I failed to find out if any of the business would be able to deliver a thank you gifts to our Hosts.

I am going to be in Poznan on Assumption Day (August 15) which I understand is a public holiday. Will restaurants, bars, museums etc. be open on that day?

Most of restaurants around Old Square Market are going to be open! Some located just in front of the Town Hall are poor but in small streets around Old Square Market you will find many including few with wegan food on Woźna street. My favourite is Pod Lampionami :)
