Exclusive Interview! Anirban Bhattacharya: The prolific nature of my work sharpens me as an actor
Anirban Bhattacharya is one of those artists who love to work constantly. But does it become tiring at times, we asked the terrific actor. Well, Anirban has an interesting point. According to the actor, his timeline of work is different from the time the projects get released.
“If there’s something by me that people get to see back to back, it does not necessarily mean that I was working on them constantly. This is especially true for 2020. Our workload was way less than normal due to the pandemic. The year 2018 was the busiest. In 2019, while I was busy, I could still invest some time in two theatre productions, Pontu Laha and Titumir. Having said that it is also true that all characters do not excite me. Some do. But with the kind of line-up I had, I’m not exhausted yet,” explains the ‘Vinci Da’ actor.
The powerhouse actor is also set for his directorial debut with ‘Mandar’ based on Macbeth. The film, starring Sohini Sarkar, Debasish Mondal, Debesh Roychowdhury, Shankar Debnath and others, is currently being shot.
So, how does it feel to don the director's hat, we asked the actor. “Initially, I was suffering from lack of confidence because being a director is not just about being able to tell a story and having a sense of aesthetics. It is also a lot about having basic technical knowledge. Which lens should be used in which shot, what does it mean to pan your camera left or right, what is the meaning of emptiness and so on. All these require some basic training that one gets in film schools. I don't have that training. But I am learning on the job. It has now become an exciting journey and I am really enjoying it,” shares Anirban.
Meanwhile, on the acting front, the popular has started shooting for Birsa Dasgupta’s next film, a thriller titled ‘Psycho’ alongside Anirban Chakraborty, Chandreyee Ghosh and Payel Dey.
