  • Gov. Jesse Ventura’s autobiography, “I Ain’t Got Time to Bleed: Reworking the Body Politic from the Bottom Up,” will hit bookstores soon.

1974 – 50 years ago

  • The valedictorian of the Chosen Valley High School Class of 1974 is Pamela Sass, and the salutatorian is Lana Meeker.
  • The top three selling books this week are Watership Down by Richard Adams, Jaws by Peter Benchley, and Burr by Gore Vidal.
  • The top three selling albums this week are “The Show Must Go On” by Three Dog Night, ‘Dancing Machine” by The Jackson Five, and “The Loco-Motion” by Grand Funk.

1949 – 75 years ago

  • The American Legion Auxiliary Poppy poster contest winners for fourth, fifth, and sixth grades were Dorothy Hander of Dover and Lyle Smith of St. Charles.
  • Clarence Stokes has been elected commander of the St. Charles Bailey-Kinnear Post of the American Legion.
  • Rev. Joseph Barnett, who served in both world wars, preached in Wabasha, and stated, “I’m here to stand for peace, and peace in the world comes only if we have trust and confidence in Almighty God.”

1924 – 100 years ago

  • The Rochester Country Club was the setting for an enthusiastic banquet when over 100 junior college students and faculty members held their annual social. Football, basketball, and dramatics “R” letters were presented during the event.
  • Ninety-six nurses from St. Marys Hospital School of Nursing and the Kahler School of Nursing will receive diplomas at the armory. There will be a reception for the nurses at Mayowood, and the graduates will receive a trip aboard the “North Star” as guests of Dr. and Mrs. W. J. Mayo.
