April Wolfe Village Voice Banderas should be in a real King adaptation, not a paraphrase of one. Nov 30, 2017 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Black Butterfly [is] a strong, if still somewhat vexing, thriller I'm glad I took the time to watch. Rated: 2.5/4 May 26, 2017 Full Review Vikram Murthi RogerEbert.com A charmless, nonsensical thriller that doubles as a hack screenwriter's wet dream, filled to the brim with faux-insights that wouldn't impress even the most inattentive college freshmen. Rated: 1/4 May 26, 2017 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Constantly plays like a film that thinks it's much smarter than it really is. Rated: 2.0/4.0 Sep 3, 2020 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com Black Butterfly would've be a modest but effective thriller had its creative team not attempted to get too clever. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 31, 2018 Full Review Chris Evangelista CutPrintFilm There's a lot of material here for a tidy little thriller, but Goodman and screenwriters Justin Stanley and Marc Frydman don't seem to know how to stick the landing. Jelisije J I don't care if I spoiled this movie for you because everything in this movie is wasted because of ridiculous ending.... it was all a dream. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review brenda c Loved it. Unpredictable. Great acting. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/12/22 Full Review Audience Member The reason I'd recommend this is because it was different and despite twists, that even the most educated stiff-upper-lip people couldn't quite endure, it's extremely cleverly done. Black butterfly to some means a bad omen or death but to others means rebirth change and fortune. Therefore Antonio who suffers from writers block has to revamp his thoughts to creating something that might save his career and his house. Brilliant performances from Antonio and the lad that played Jack. Whether or not he existed at all was a mystery but his tattoo certainly spurred on the whole idea of the screen play for Paul. The film was set in Italy yet the dialogue is American including the fbi and well it gets a bit silly at times. All with the hidden message - rebirth. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review jay s I liked this movie, except for the last two minutes, it was absolutely unnecessary and ruined what was a good ending when Jack walked out.
