Legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy dropped the new single “We Go Back” featuring contributions from iconic vocalist Mavis Staples. The song is one of 16 included on Guy’s forthcoming new studio album, The Blues Don’t Lie.

Produced by Tom Hambridge, Guy’s 19th studio album and first since 2018’s The Blues Don’t Lie is set for release on September 30 via Silvertone/RCA Records. Buddy recruited a number of all-stars to contribute to The Blues Don’t Lie including Staples, Jason Isbell, Elvis Costello and James Taylor. Isbell teamed with the Chicago-based bluesman on the previously released single, “Gunsmoke Blues.”

On “We Go Back,” Buddy and Mavis reminisce about the year 1968. Staples references the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King singing, “On a balcony in Memphis. April of 1968. I never will forget what happened on that date.” The pair note in those days, “Times were bad but what a time we had.” Guy infuses the track with his signature blues licks.
