The Evergreen State College Track & Field programs competed on Friday, April 27th, at the Oregon State High Performance Invite, hosted by OSU in Corvallis at their Whyte Track & Field Center.
Highlighting the Geoducks at the invite were freshman
Braxton Claridy, breaking his own school record in the 200 meters, set last week in 22.00 at the CWU Wildcat Invite, with a time of 21.90. Sophomore
Alauna Carstens completed another NAIA National 'A' Standard for the women's 5k with a performance of 17:14.44. Freshman
Calvin Hume won his heat of the Men's 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.85, a CCC qualifying mark.
"Given the wet, windy, and cold conditions and competing in this facility for the first time, a fantastic meet for all." Said Assistant Coach Scott Copeland. "Deberry and Barney set PR's in the 200m, while teammate Claridy rewrote his own school 200m record with a 21.90 clocking. Our 400m hurdlers duo of Hume and Strickland persevered over the ten hurdles splashing their way through to commendable times."
Other performances include a personal best for freshman
Johahn Barney in the 200 with a time of 23.64. Junior
Allison Deberry had a great performance in the Women's 200. The time from her heat is still not available due to issues with the timing system, but doesn't take from her great performance.
"I am very proud of this group and the way they performed at Oregon State! It's hard being a student-athlete, especially when the weather is a little rough. The Geoducks did amazing!" Stated Head Coach Joel Pearson.
The Geoducks return to Track & Field at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships on May 10th and 11th, held at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon at their Moehl Stadium.
