We stayed at the Dreams hotel in late July. The hotel is located about 20 minutes from the airport/ downtown area which we knew. No transport was available but the hotel did suggest a car service to and from the airport. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted with drinks and given a pamphlet about the hotel. Check in was fine! Our room was as advertised and we were pleased with clean bedding, working AC and spotless room (6th floor, view of the pool/beach). We were advised that there were 2 restaurants and we went to both (Italian and Seafood). The Italian restaurant wasn't good but the seafood restaurant by the beach was EXCELLENT. Based on your room selection, there are hidden items you can order.. The pool was wonderful, clean and not crowded at all. At most I think the hotel had 25% capacity so the staff knew all the guest. One night for dinner, the buffet was closed because their weren't enough guest to accommodate the buffet (makes sense) We visited the spa twice and these workers were great! Ask if there is a discount based on your room selection.... House keeping cleaned the room everyday but sometimes forgot to bring back items. IE: Our bathroom mat was taken one day and returned close to our departure date, the bathroom is HUGE and has lots of lights. The concierge desk needs a bit more help as they used Google to show us which tours were available. We did a catamaran tour and a day trip with a local guide and both were good. Breakfast buffet was plentiful - an omelette station, fresh fruit station and a drink station and the staple food - bacon, pancakes, French toast, pastries, eggs a host of Spanish style foods. Room service was ok, we ordered it twice! Many options to choose. We also noticed the mold and was told that it is a work in progress and they have come along way with this renovation. The entertainment seemed fun but we were just there to relax. There was exercise in pool as well as bands playing in the lounge area. The staff mostly spoke Spanish but most were willing to use Google translate to help you. Security post are located on the dirt road leading up to the hotel and another security check before you enter the hotel, security at the entrance and along the beach /golf course. I ordered an Uber and security had to ok them before they made it to the hotel to pick me up. Overall this was a good hotel but they need to work to complete the renovations. We saw 2 proposals and apparently Colombia is bachelor party central!

We’ve stayed in many places in Colombia from Bogota, Medellin, Pereira, Santa Marta, Taganga, yes Cartagena to Barranquilla where my wife is from. The Conrad Cartagena is by far once of the best properties we’ve stayed at in Colombia.
From the prearranged transportation in a Mercedes Van from the airport to the gracious welcome from the front desk with a refreshing drink all the way to the servers at the beach & pool everybody was warm, attentive, and welcoming.
We were a group of six – I booked all three rooms through our AMEX Platinum which gave us some nice extras such as free breakfast, late checkout plus $100 of resort credit per room. We spent 3 nights here right as COVID was becoming real 3/11 – 3/14. We didn’t play golf (way too windy this time of year to play) however we experienced the main pool, the beach area pool and all the restaurants. Everything was top notch. We didn’t go into the city on their shuttle as the next part of our trip included that as we stayed the next 4 nights at the Hyatt.
If I had to give one critique, the bartenders at the main lobby bar weren’t too social or outgoing.
Once travel gets back to the new normal don’t hesitate – book this place! You will enjoy it!

These reviews are very interesting and let me preface this by saying I'm a true hotel/resort/food snob. I just returned from a 5-night stay as a birthday celebration and have to wonder if I stayed at a different resort than the most recent reviews. We had an absolutely amazing stay. The pools and beach area were clean. I researched the beach and was aware it wouldn't be crystal clear because of the sediment but the water was warm, calm and sand soft aside from the seashells that wash up on the beach. Yes the beach area closed early, but the area is completely pitch black after the sun goes down and since the resort isn't the only residence with beach access in the area I appreciated the extra security precautions to include security personnel who secure the beach overnight. And how do I know this, I lost my invasalign retainers and Manuel as well as the rest of the security team escorted me to the beach to help me locate them at 1230a, which I greatly appreciated. The resort excels with their fresh fish selections and local cuisine to include the red snapper, seafood rice, and fish stews. Even their local drinks were a highlight like the Corozo Martini and fresh Pina Colada, which they juice the ingredients fresh to prepare. I agree the entertainment was light but I was there to relax so the chilled atmosphere was what I needed. Our room was clean and modern. We had an amazing spa service with therapy pools and a steam before service. Freddie was our driver for the majority of our stay. Rates were negotiated ahead of time and he went above beyond with helping us navigate and negotiate when we went into town. He even canceled one day because of concerns for our safety when a protest popped up in the Walled City. Is this Dreams resort on par with Dreams in other countries, I find it comparable to the Cabo location, but remember Cartagena is an up and coming tourist area if you're looking for Mexico, DR, or Jamaica equivalents then give it another year but if you're looking for a relaxing time then this is the resort for you.

Loved this resort so much! As a UVC member I was treated like gold, with the most gorgeous room and a beautiful welcome gift. The resort only opened a month ago but the staff were doing an amazing job!
There were two restaurants open each night, which was fine because it didn’t even seem like the resort was at a 20% capacity which meant there was never a line to eat and very few people in a restaurant. At World Cafe the chef even came out and helped me identify what was shellfish and not to eat (cause I’m allergic) then pointed at everything I could have that wasn’t shellfish. Then later came over and asked how the meal was—it was excellent!
The resort was gorgeous and very clean. The event staff worked hard and provide entertainment, there was even a DJ one day on the roof of the snack bar.
As they just opened there were a few snags, the room service was only open until 11pm and there were no iPads or room service book menu in the room. The power went out in my unit twice, just for a moment once at 11pm and once at 9am the next day. I asked another guest on the same floor as me if they experienced it was well and they said no. The ATM was down the whole time I was there, which was unfortunate because it made it so that you had to go to the mall 10 minutes away to take out money to tip or for excursions. The nice thing about the ATM at the mall is that there was 0$ service fee to use it, so I just kept going there before I went anywhere and again each time I came back. Also there is only one gift shop open and it only seems to sell high end swimsuits…more of a boutique. These are all kinks I’m sure they will work out, as the ATM was back up and running the last day of my trip.
There is no UVC rep or AmStar desk there yet either, but all the excursions are so affordable that I didn’t really feel I missed out on not having my UVC discount.
All in all the trip was absolutely perfect, a special thank you to Carlos Berrio, Silvia, Yoyo, and Jhonathan for being absolutely amazing!!
Would definitely one back here again :)

My recent four-day vacation to Dreams Karibana, Colombia, left me with mixed feelings. While the location had promising potential, several significant issues marred the experience.
First and foremost, the food was a major disappointment. It not only lacked variety but also made my travel companions and me sick, which seriously hindered our enjoyment of the trip. The hygiene standards in the dining areas left much to be desired.
Furthermore, the room's amenities were far from satisfactory. The absence of washcloths was surprising and inconvenient. The cleaning service was subpar, as we encountered mold and mildew in our room. This not only affected our comfort but also raised health concerns.
Moreover, the balcony was inaccessible, depriving us of the beautiful views we had hoped for. To make matters worse, the air conditioning in our room didn't work properly, leading to uncomfortable and restless nights.
Despite its potential, Dreams Karibana fell short of expectations due to these issues. It's crucial for the management to address these concerns promptly to provide guests with a more enjoyable and hygienic experience in the future.

The hotel itself is an old Conrad which the new chain Dreams is trying to operate on a shoestring budget. When making the reservation a few days before traveling the pictures on website looked great with no indication of being a new property(it is not new)! I revisited website the next day and site had a banner indicating it was new…! This caused me to wonder if everything was up and running, so I contacted Dreams who indicated all was operational ! Well I beg to differ!!! No ATM, No gift shop, only one restaurant opened at a time, No room service after 11pm even though advertise 24 hrs. Just a couple of things they misrepresented! As far as cleanliness the room was clean and most of property seemed clean with the exception of the pool! When I approached the front desk several times I was basically told sorry! Never again will I stay at a Dreams property and suggest you reconsider your stay here as well!!!

We had an amazing time at Dreams Karibana There are 3 a la carte restaurants An Italian A Steakhouse And a beach seafood we enjoyed them all but the Italian was our favourite The buffet was also good but limited selection We enjoyed all the amenities and the rooms where bright and clean with great AC Golf was good but very HOT The resort wasn’t too busy so it was always easy to get a seat at the pool and no waits for meals Very friendly staff…most have limited English but we were always able to get by! They accept American dollar or Colombian peso The beach is dark sand and water we preferred the pool Room service was amazing!! And so was the food by the pool! We were very spoiled Over all we had an amazing experience and we loved colombia!

First time in Columbia very dissopointed with the Resort. IT was three woman traveling and they did not put us together like we were promised from our Agent. Than we were told they were Ocean front rooms but we had a view of the trees and a pool that did not even have water in it and some cows. So, of course we were not pleased. One of the customer service agents did try to move us to a better rooms but only one person got a pool view and there rest of us just got the beach view which was of trees and cows. So, the room was clean however the shower once you finished with it the water just drained to the main floor of the bathroom daily. I had to keep asking for Towels my white stay to get up the water. Than in the hall ways it smelled of Old Mildew. So, I would not recommend this resort to anyone I know. I would say to please stay somewhere down town like the Hyatt in the middle of Columbia. Than you would not have to keep calling Ubers and taxies which was really expensive to take us back and fouth doing our stay.
Also, the beach area is rocky so it was not that enjoyable to get in. Also, you had to take the golf course to get there daily .
If you want to be in a resort far away with nothing to do than pick this resort. If you want more activity than I would say stay in town or closer in.

No air-conditioning in the hotel other than the room itself. Key card stopped working multiple times so I had to go all the way back down to the lobby every time to get it switched out. The bathroom flooded every time I use the shower if another door was completely shut. Housekeeping never came to my room unless they called down to the front desk even though I indicated in the manner asked that I would like it every day. I was not given my amenities. It should’ve come with my preferred room and the view that I was promised was awful. It was a view of the hotel building itself instead of the ocean , overall very unsatisfied with the service and the hotel itself.

I am a travel agent and I visited this property to do research for my clients. This is not a 5 star resort. I would give it a 3.8 resort.
The food would make me return and offer this to clients (with disclaimers)
About 20 minutes from the airport and city life. Ubers are $8-$15 each way.
Did I say the food was amazing! I mean it! Room service food was also amazing. We ordered it every day. I personally didn’t enjoy the buffet but others did.
The resort hallways and rooms did smell like mildew and you can see the water damage. The work around is keeping the rooms cold. Some guests didn’t experience that smell.
The property needs a good power washing. I didn’t see the value in preferred club as you can only get premium liquor from the second floor lounge. Not being able to get premium liquor at the pools is a huge gap the property could close to help make PC more demanding.
Oh… the food was AMAZING.. I did not add salt or pepper to any of my food

I went in June of 2023 and didn’t see one cat on the property the 4 days I was there. Unless it has changed since I was there last, we didn’t have any issues with bugs or stray animals. However, it’s not unlikely in South America (or even the Caribbean countries) to see a cat or bugs every now and then.
When I went in June of 2023 we saw no bugs, snakes, or stray animals on the property and definitely none in our room or pool. It may seem gross, but it’s normal to see one or two every now and then outside the property or in the open air hallways. A lot of properties I have stayed at in Central / South American use bug and pest control, but in warmer climates, there are a lot of critters. A couple are bound to get in every now and then, but it’s not an infestation.
