Edward Hicks

Edward is Principal of the Oxford School of Drama (appointed August 2019). His role as Principal is combined with both teaching (especially screen work) and directing.

He began his career as an actor, appearing in the West End, for the RSC and in numerous film and television roles before moving behind the camera. As a director, his credits include student showcases, theatre productions and Short films. His films have been selected for film festivals (including BAFTA, Cannes, Munich, ASFF) and broadcast on Amazon Prime.

His teaching career spans two decades, including eleven years at RADA where he created a new department and screen acting curriculum as Head of Film, TV & Radio. He was at East 15 Acting School as an MA course leader for Six years and his industry clients have included Universal, Ch4 and Sky. He is also a judge for The BBC Audio Awards and a regular speaker at film festivals (including BAFTA, BFI, LFF). He has written about drama schools and screen acting for publications (including The Stage, the Guardian and the Actor’s Yearbook) as well as for podcasts and is currently completing a book for Bloomsbury.
