September 8, 2023 - October 28, 2023 - France hosts the 10th Rugby World Cup, 200 years after Rugby School pupil William Webb Ellis displayed “a fine disregard for the rules” by catching the ball and running with it during a football match -- now credited as the birth of the sport of rugby.

Host nation France will open the tournament with an epic clash against New Zealand in Saint-Denis on September 8. Reigning champions South Africa begin their campaign against Scotland, 2019 finalists England face an improving Argentina, while Wales, Australia and Fiji are set for fiercely bruising contests in Pool C.

Both New Zealand and South Africa are aiming to lift the Webb Ellis Cup for a record-extending fourth time, ahead of their southern hemisphere rivals Australia with two wins, and England who hoisted the trophy in 2003.

A total of 48 matches will be played at nine venues over six weeks, with the final taking place at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis on October 28.
