Stephen Nelson, Yonder Alonso, Cliff Floyd and CC Sabathia to be part of non-traditional game telecast; highlights from 2021 Clubhouse Edition series can be seen here

June 1, 2022 – MLB Network Showcase: Clubhouse Edition – MLB Network’s non-traditional game telecast series – will return for its second season, beginning with the New York Mets at San Diego Padres this Monday, June 6, at 9:30 p.m. ET. Six-time MLB All-Star CC Sabathia, who helped develop the Clubhouse concept, will join MLB Network’s Stephen Nelson, 2017 MLB All-Star and former Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso, and 2001 MLB All-Star and former Mets outfielder Cliff Floyd for the conversational call inside a casually set up Studio 21. Highlights from the Clubhouse Edition telecasts in 2021, where viewers experienced the organic analysis, reaction and storytelling from a group of former players watching a game together, can be seen here.

“I’m pumped that the Clubhouse games are back on MLB Network,” said Sabathia. “We want the fans to get a little insight on what players are thinking throughout the course of a game. We had fun doing it last year, so I’m looking forward to getting going on Monday with two real good teams playing.”

“This dynamic series was a tremendous success last year,” said Marc Caiafa, MLB Network Senior Vice President of Production. “Collaborating with CC helped us bring a new dimension to the way we broadcast games and throughout baseball. As we look ahead, we’re excited to bring the series back and make it even more enjoyable for baseball fans.”

Launched in April 2021, the four Clubhouse Edition telecasts generated many memorable moments in its first season, including Hall of Famer and MLB Network analyst Pedro Martinez revealing how he used to change pitching grips mid-delivery, Martinez and Sabathia correctly predicting a Max Scherzer slider for a strikeout during a Los Angeles Dodgers at Padres telecast, Sabathia explaining how to attack the potent Dodgers lineup, and Sabathia reliving hitting a home run off Chan Ho Park at Dodger Stadium in 2008.

“Having a seat in the ‘Clubhouse’ last year was a thrill,” said Nelson. “I love mixing it up with CC and the guys; to be a bridge for fans to experience a game through Major League eyes. It’s so fun to listen to them go back and forth on matchups, strategy, history and storylines just like the rest of us do with our friends. I’m so pumped that the series is back and I can’t wait for Monday.”

In addition to its traditional MLB Network Showcase and Clubhouse Edition broadcasts, MLB Network has produced other game telecast formats over the last several seasons. Since 2015, MLB Network has produced analytics-focused telecasts incorporating essays and on-screen graphics using advanced metrics. Since 2020, MLB Network has produced MLB Network Showcase matchups using unique elements from its studio program MLB Tonight. At different points of the night and in trademark MLB Tonight style, the telecast has included Studio 42 demonstrations, and shifted to a two-box format to whip around to live look-ins of key moments from other games across Major League Baseball. The next MLB Network Showcase telecast features the Los Angeles Angels, with Shohei Ohtani scheduled to start, against Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees tomorrow, June 2, at 7 p.m. ET. Adnan Virk, Tom Verducci and Jon Morosi will have the call live from Yankee Stadium.

As is the case for every live game on MLB Network, Monday’s telecast will be available for authenticated live streaming via the MLB app and MLBNetwork.com. Monday’s Clubhouse Edition game will not be available in the Mets’ and Padres’ home television territories, as viewers in those markets will see the Boston Red Sox against the Los Angeles Angels at 9:30 p.m. ET.
