About Weight Watchers diet

WW (formerly known as Weight Watchers) is a global weight loss and health management program for both short-term and long-term dieters. WW Freestyle programs use the SmartPoints Budget system, which allows members to follow the WW diet easily. WW provides more than 4,000 recipes that can be made at home, plus guidelines for how to eat out on the program. The company also lets brand ambassadors earn a commission through an affiliate program when they share WW with others.

How does Weight Watchers work?

The key to success in the WW program is a specially designed SmartPoints system. Every food and drink item is assigned a number based on its calories, saturated fat, protein and sugar content. Members are then given a weekly and monthly “budget,” taking into consideration their activity, health goals and lifestyle. Dieters track their food, exercise and progress to make sure they're on target with their health goals.

With the points system, up to four daily unused SmartPoints can roll over into the next weekly budget. There are also 200+ Zero Points foods, such as eggs, salmon, chicken breast and beans, which don't need tracking while in the program.

WW keeps members motivated through its free rewards program — WellnessWins — where members celebrate creating healthy habits. Rewards include fitness class passes, wine tumblers, and take anywhere organizers. All WW memberships include a private online community and 24/7 support from a WW Coach, which is accessible through the digital app.

Weight Watchers programs

WW currently offers three membership options: Digital, Workshops + Digital, or Personal Coaching + Digital. WW Freestyle is the core program followed in all three of WW plans.

  • Digital: For those just starting, the Digital plan gives dieters 24/7 support through an app and website. Members get access to WW’s database of more than 4,000 recipes and access to Connect, a private online community. The app also syncs with fitness trackers.
  • Workshop + Digital: For dieters who prefer a more personalized program, WW offers in-person sessions in addition to their digital plans. There are more than 3,000 studio locations nationwide offering about 14,000 workshops a week. With the help of certified coaches, members learn how to manage and maintain weight loss through healthy strategies. Memberships also include weekly check-ins with WW coaches.
  • Personal Coaching + Digital: The WW Personal Coaching + Digital plans provide tailored one-on-one coaching as part of its premium packages. The Personal Coaching + Digital plan doesn't include private check-ins, but it does include personalized action plans that help members meet weight loss goals.

Joined WW in November and the program did not work for my needs. I decided to cancel my membership and received a confirmation email that my membership had been cancelled. However, WW continued to bill my debit card. When I called customer service to complain and get a refund for the $25 monthly charge, I was told that because I "committed" to a special program I was unable to cancel or stop monthly payments. I don't recall committing to anything and was told it was contained in the "user agreement". Oh! You mean the misleading mile long legal mumble jumble that nobody reads and just clicks "agree". Oh that.

Their genius lawyers and marketing department found a way for the failing company to make money. Deceive members then force them to pay for a membership they no longer want for a year then just continue rolling over the bilking, even if the member wants out. I had joined and left WW many times over the decades and until now was able to discontinue monthly billing immediately. No more! Scam. Scam. Scam. I highly recommend finding a weight loss organization that gives the terms up front in big bold letters. Then I'd call them to confirm that your bank account won't keep getting billed.

I joined WW and Sequence with high hopes of getting nutritional and medical assistance with my menopausal-related weight gain, yet ran into dead end after dead end. After the initial payment and consultation, the Sequence reps take forever to respond to questions and they stretch out the process forever so you have to keep paying the monthly fee for basically nothing. They ignored my offer to pay out-of-pocket for medication and insisted on submitting requests – one at a time – for coverage to my insurance company for diabetic-related medication even though I'm not a diabetic and knew the medicine would not be approved. After three months of stalling and a total lack of communication, I had it and quit the program (except for my money of course that will continue to be paid to them monthly due to the long-term deal they con you into). I cannot believe how devious and deceitful this company has become.

I recently tried the Weight Watchers clinic. At first it was promising with the eligibility questionnaire before the sign up. But after agreeing to the membership it quickly felt like a scam. The sequence and weight watchers app do not communicate with each other. So I was not able to sign up for the WW app and there was no communication why I was unable to sign up. Then I was notified because I had an HMO plan, I did not qualify, which should honestly be part of the eligibility questionnaire. So then I opted to take the ** and **.

Two weeks after stating I felt like I was having a heart attack. So I opted to cancel the membership because this is clearly not going to work. It’s too expensive to purchase the medication and the medication I do qualify for are affecting my health poorly. There are clearly some interface problems that should be resolved between the clinic and the WW app as well. I believe on your website there should be an open and honest review of the program instead of only positive reviews selected by the marketing team.

For several years both my husband and I used the Weight Watchers app. We were charged individually for the app through our bank account. Last year Weight Watchers yet again changed their model. I was struggling with their last model change and was not seeing the results I once was, so I opted to cancel my subscription. It took about six months - calling every month to FINALLY have them stop taking the subscription out of my account. They refused to refund me even though I had month after month of records of my calling.

With that information my husband decided to call it quits also. He not only canceled the app on his phone (and the subscription) but he also called the company. It has been two months and he has to call every month to cancel the service because we are still getting charged. We have been scammed out of over $167 dollars and we have done our due diligence to stop this from continuing. I told a friend what was happening and she too has had this issue. She advised me to report them to the BBB so without much recourse I have. It seems like they continue to do this and it seems like shady practices. I wonder how many other people are continuing to get scammed by WW. I warn anyone who is considering to use this program - especially the app - Their practices are shifty.

I have been a lifetime member below goal weight for years. Weight Watchers made a lot of changes/cutbacks after the pandemic. Many studios are closed and yet they expect their members to drive for hours to weigh-in a minimum of once monthly regardless of their lifetime weight-loss success and inputing their weight into the WW App regularly. This program is greed driven and once they have your credit card number they will continue to charge you. BEWARE it’s not about your "weight-loss success or support". It is about them taking your money monthly.

I joined in 1974 when our youngest was a yr old. I lost 90 lbs and was a lifetime member....stopped going for a few yrs due to a move late 80s to mid 90s. No problems, no charge. Back then you got charged a 1 month fee to start back. I was maybe 5 lbs over my goal. I lost that and have remained under my goal since. On January, my husband (86 yrs old) ended up on the hospital with blood clots in his lungs. He had alzheimer's already, but the 3 wks on hospital and rehab made him so much worse. I called to see if I could miss a month because he couldn't be left alone. She said yes as long as I called but I would be charged $14. I'm 79....seriously??? After 49 yrs of being a lifetime member and weighing in monthly...staying 3 to 5 lbs under my goal??? I quit right then and there. When I joined in 1974....WW was about us, now it's all about the money!

I joined WW in 2019. I lost weight and I've kept it off because back then they provided a lot of motivation and support. They have completely gutted everything that made WW a great program. No more motivational e-mails, no more WW food products, no more reward program. On top of that, they closed so many meeting locations, that I am forced to travel almost 40 miles in the dark this time of year. I'm a lifetime member and more than 20 pounds under the top of my goal weight. I couldn't possibly put on 20 pounds in a month. I asked if they would allow me to attend once every three months instead, but they told me I'd be charged $12.00 a month to use the app if I did that. WW is no longer the great company it once was that cared about its members.

I signed up for 6 month promo $10/mo. I set my calendar to remind me to cancel. I tried to cancel online but WW billed me $26. I tried to email and call with great difficulty because THEY DON'T MAKE IT EASY to get to the correct customer service. Finally spoke to a rep and complained. They refused to refund. She assured me that my account was cancelled. A month later, CHARGED ME AGAIN!!!! I called and complained - rep said she would reverse that charge. Haven’t seen any confirmation of this happening. This has got to be ILLEGAL!!!! Do not sign up for WW!!!! BUYER BEWARE.

WW takes your money and gives you no grace period. The app does not work well, the program cannot even look up easy words. When I spoke to someone about canceling, they pretty much told too bad, it is going to deduct until January of 2024. I will never use WW again. 20 years ago they were much better but now they are just money hungry and steal money out of your account for a service that they don't provide.

I signed up for WW not realizing I was committing to 6 months. Life got in the way, and I am not able to attend any meetings. I never once used any service, and WW refuses to stop charging me. Their argument is, "You should have paid attention when you signed up, we can legally take your money, so we will." What a disgusting, self-serving organization. They are supposed to be helping people who obviously have eating issues, yet they don’t care at all. They just want your money. Every month I see that charge, I get a little sickened. Shame on you, WW.
