Burning Betrayal follows a dark romance and dangerous mystery with some surprising reveals at the end. Based on the book O Lado Bom de Ser Traída by Sue Hecker, the Brazilian Netflix movie features Giovanna Lancellotti as Bárbara "Babi" Vieira, a successful accountant who finds out her soon-to-be husband has been cheating on her. She decides to start her life over and embarks on a romance with a mysterious new man named Marco, aka "the hot judge," but there are reasons to suspect he's no more trustworthy than her ex-fiance.

Meanwhile, Babi's close friend Thiago turns out not to be the person she thought he was, and Caio winds up being even worse than is first revealed. Fortunately, Babi can trust her pal Camilla, who always has her back no matter what kind of dangerous things are going on in her life. Things get dark by the end of Burning Betrayal, though, with Thiago, Caio, and Marco all brought together for the thrilling climax, and at one point, it even seems like Babi might not make it out of her situation alive.

Thiago's Real Intentions & Ties To Caio Explained

Throughout Burning Betrayal, Thiago appears to be a good friend to Babi and is there for her when she finds out her soon-to-be husband, Caio, has been cheating on her for two years. At one point, it seems like Babi and Thiago may end up together in a happy friends-to-lovers type ending. However, at the end of Burning Betrayal, Thiago picks Babi up in his car and threatens to kill her.

It turns out he was never her friend, and he was working with Caio the whole time on his illegal businesses. This is foreshadowed earlier in the film when Thiago convinces Babi not to cut business ties with Caio after finding out about the cheating. Thiago and Caio are behind the first attempted murder of Babi when she falls off her motorcycle, but by the end, they almost manage to kill her.

How Does Babi Escape From Thiago & Caio

When Thiago captures Babi, he takes her to the forest, where he and Caio try to kill her, but things don't go as they planned. Marco finds out their plan ahead of time and drives to the forest to save her. When he arrives, he gets into a physical altercation with Thiago. While the two are wrestling on the ground together, Thiago shoots Marco in the side, ending his plan to save Babi. Fortunately, a police officer shows up and shoots Thiago in the back before he has the chance to kill Babi. When she's free, she runs to Marco and remains with him through the end of the scene.

What Happens To Caio At The End Of Burning Betrayal

Despite Thiago and Caio working together to take down Babi throughout the film, the former ultimately turns on the latter. At the end of Burning Betrayal, Thiago shows up at Caio's office to see him covered in blood. Caio admits men broke in and attacked him and tells Thiago he doesn't want to be a part of their illegal business anymore. It becomes clear that Thiago was the ring leader all along. Later, when Thiago picks up Babi, Caio is waiting for her in the forest. Thiago puts him in charge of digging the hole they plan to bury Babi in.

Thiago then orders Caio to kill Babi as she pleads for him not to. When Caio tells Thiago he can't do it, Babi grabs a shovel and knocks him and Thiago down. Babi attempts to grab Thiago's gun, but he gets it first and shoots Caio in the chest, killing him instantly. This initially makes Babi upset. She was furious at him for cheating on her, but he was still the man she had loved for so many years. However, once she is free, it is Marco she runs to, not Caio's lifeless body, proving that despite their past relationship, she has officially moved on.

Was Marco Secretly Married?

Marco's role in Burning Betrayal is a bit confusing throughout. At first, he seems like Babi's rebound, but then she finds herself having real feelings for him. After she's betrayed by Caio, Marco feels like a safe haven, but she soon finds out he has betrayed her, too. She realizes she's the other woman when Marco's wife shows up at his house and starts arguing with him for having Babi over.

However, Marco explains the situation, and Babi quickly forgives him. Marco's wife is dealing with some mental health issues that have caused their relationship to fall apart. They share a daughter with health issues that caused her to remain in the hospital, and when Marco's wife tried to kill their daughter, he realized there was no way to salvage his marriage. Babi understands the situation and decides to continue seeing him.

Was Marco The Good Guy The Entire Time?

Marco shows up in Burning Betrayal as a mysterious character who seems like he is up to no good. It's certainly shocking when Thiago turns out to be the bad guy instead of Marco. Other than the moment when Babi thinks Marco has been cheating on his wife with her the whole time, Marco has a pretty clean reputation. He ends up being the one who was really there for Babi after finding out about Caio's affair. He also shows up to save her when she is almost killed by Caio and Thiago. He seems suspicious at first, but Marco is a good guy after all.

Why Babi & Marco End Up Together

After everything Babi has been through, she decides to stay with Marco, and the two end up together at the end of Burning Betrayal. Their final scenes include Babi comforting Marco as he goes into the ambulance and Marco updating Babi on his daughter's health journey. When Marco tells Babi his daughter will be coming home from the hospital soon, Babi seems excited about the new chapter and to be a part of his daughter's life. One of the final scenes in Burning Betrayal is of Babi and Marco riding his motorcycle on the beach at sunset.

Even though there were some moments of distrust between the two, Babi realizes she can trust Marco and that he is a much better fit for her than Caio. Their dynamic is interesting as Babi is betrayed by her fiancé at the beginning, and then it seems like Marco has betrayed his wife. However, after everything is cleared up, it becomes obvious that Babi and Marco are a great pair in Burning Betrayal.
